I've been having a pretty crummy season thus far, I've been hunting public land mostly and have yet to have seen a buck since opening day. I missed a mature doe at about 25 yards and then had 2 year and a half old bucks follow her, I just couldn't pass up the second buck and took the shot apps 28 yds perfectly broadside and he went down within sight after running about 50 yards. I have been shooting Red River broadheads from Midwest trapping and hunting supply and am very pleased with the  performance and accuracy as well as my trusty TallTines and axis arrows weighing approximately 520 grains. Oh, and don't forget a great string from Daniel Brinkley of hunters choice bowstrings here on tradgang...pictures to follow

Congratulations, glad to see someone else stretch what a lot of folks say is an acceptable shot. If it feels good and I know I  can make the shot, I'm shooting.

Congrats Mike. Hope this is an omen for me. Pretty much the same scenario as you. Passed on a Y buck a couple of days ago knowing there are some bigger ones in the area. But where. Anyway, saw some good sign this morning so who knows. And Izzy, I agree with you. Sometimes you get the feeling that you just know you can make the shot. Doesn't always happen but can.

Michael,

congrats on the deer brother!  If you're having a "crummy season", i must be having a far worse than crummy one! lol.  I have only seen 2 deer.. I don't get to hunt much though.  Only 1-2 days a week.

Izzy, 30 yards is my max on whitetail. Ironically so far this year I haven't had a shot inside 20 yards. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't shoot accurately inside the 20 to 30 yard range. I'll admit my margin for error is greater but I can tell you I wouldn't have shot any of the big bucks I've gotten if I wouldn't have prepared for shots out to 30. I've seen folks that can have a good level of accuracy at 40 and even 50 yards with traditional equipment...and I've been in the place myself where I couldn't shoot worth crap past 20 yards

Nice shot, great deer, and I'm glad that you were able to develop the  ability required at the distance you needed.
