I was able to take my first deer ever and I took it with my Samick Sage. I got into traditional archery about 8 months ago with the intent on going hunting this year with my brothers. I had actually shot and missed this deer about a week earlier but I was able to get her this time. The shot was at 18 yards and the arrow hit exactly where I was looking. It was a double lung, complete pass through shot. She only ran about 40 yards and dropped! I could still see her from my tree stand. I was shaking like a leaf after she hit the ground!

I had to shoot her between the fork in this tree. You can see a little sapling between the fork. She was standing right in front of that sapling.

My equipment:

Samick Sage 62" - 51# @ 29 (my draw length)
Gold Tip Hunter 7595 (340), Woodsman original 150 grain broad head, 5 inch feathers, total arrow weight about 480 grains.

Congratulations! You are now over the hump and hooked. There is no hunting like traditional archery hunting. It sure can get the adrenalin going.   :clapper:

Fantastic Brother. Explain to us the site of watching those yellow fletchings flying against the brown background of deer hair and the feeling of knowing you made a perfect shot when the arrow arrived?

Awesome! I'm shooting the same bow/poundage/draw everything, but with 5575's with 150 head and 100 brass insert?? Suprising that the 7595 aren't too stiff. I thought mine flew pretty good, but I haven't shot the 7595's. Congrats!

KentuckyTJ: You are so right. My eyes were locked in on the spot I wanted to hit. The last thing I saw was the yellow feathers hitting that spot and then disappearing! I knew right then that I had made a good shot. She ran about 30 yards and then just stopped and looked around. At that point I started to second guess what I saw. Then she ran another 10 yards and fell down! I heard her take one last deep breath and she was done! After she went down, I started shaking so bad that I couldn't text my brother that was hunting with me to let him know what just happened. I had to call him and all he could do was laugh and say "Calm Down"!

JCS: I tried the 5575 and they kept showing weak on my bare shaft test. I have a 29" to 29 1/2" draw and I couldn't cut the 5575 short enough with my draw length to fly straight. I'm also using a fast flight string and a really thin piece of leather for the arrow strike plate. The 7595 are cut to about 31" from the center of the arrow knock to the point insert. At that length they fly pretty straight. Next year I'm going to increase my FOC weight and take a little more length off the arrow.
