Any reason not to go with VPA broadheads?

Just getting into traditional archery so I am not that familiar with some of the heads that most use.

Anyway, I am considering getting the VPA 3 blade 125 grain heads from their custom shop (custom shop head is a bit longer profile than the standard 125 grains). I'm shooting a Liberty Contender Longbow at 55# with a 28" draw and my arrows will weigh 540 grains. Are there any other heads that will be significantly better than the VPAs as far as accuracy, sharpness, penetration etc..?

A few others I have considered are the Magnus Snuffer, Magnus Stinger 4 blade or Wensel Woodsman.

I just this year am giving VPA heads a try, in the 160 gr 3-blade configuration. With just a regular, flat, chain-saw raker file they get crazy sharp -- like a barbers straight razor. They must be pretty good steel.

I would say thumbs-up on the VPA 3-blades.

55# you can kill anything in North America with a VPA. Get them tuned well, sharp and go for it.

You listed some proven broadheads as options, but your first choice of VPAs is a good one. It's my favorite three blade.

Perfect, just what I wanted to hear. I tried the little 100 grain VPAs out of my compound and they sharpened easily and were accurate. Unfortunately, never got to hunt with them as my wife somehow threw them out and I never got around to buying new ones.

Like said above, at 55# you can use just about any broadhead you want and be successful, and there is certainly nothing wrong with the choice of VPA!

Some of the best heads you can buy,but I used the 200 and 250 grains ones.

I love them. I killed 11 animals with a single VPA 175 grain 3 blade. I've killed lots of critters with the 250's too. I've yet to damage one beyond repair with a little file work.

They are my go to heads. I use the 160 grain glue ons.

Successfully harvested coons, groundhogs, deer, turkeys, hog and red stag without the slighest flaw have easily made me a staunch VPA 3 blade proponent.

No reason at all, unless you just like a different head. I have pix of a blood trail ( VPA 175) that looks like you poured it from a pitcher for many yards. Course, the shot was in the right place and it passed thru, that always helps.

I use the 150 and 175 3 blade heads. Can't find any reasons not to like them

Really good heads. I killed a deer with one of the custom shop three blades with a 1 1/4" cutting diameter. Fly great, easy to sharpen, big hole.

Started using them this season and if I had one complaint is that they dont hold an edge as well as some other heads, a bit high maintenance if you will. It's not a big deal because they sharpen so easy its no problem to hit em on a a leather strop to bring back the edge. Seems in and out of the quiver a few times and Im running em over the leather to keep the edge keen. Other than that they are straight as can be, tough and excellent flying head.

They are great heads. Much sharper out the pack than the others and because of that your fine tune sharpening takes a lot less time. I have spent quite some time just flattening the edges on other the 3 blade first before being able to get really sharp. Not with the VPA.
