Opening day of NJs deer season a big disappointment. Heavy rain and strong wind. At least here in Sussex County. Assume it's the same state wide. Have any of you guys braved the elements?

It's not looking good here. Maybe tomorrow.

Decided to just stay out of the woods until these winds have passed.  It has been a dry summer, and I would be very careful in these winds.  More than one poor unsuspecting person has been nailed by a large limb coming down on them, and this weather is a set up. The season is just getting started: hunt smart and hunt safely

Windy and wet here in SW PA too. We have six more weeks to hunt, I don't have to get wet or get bonked by a falling limb.

Another reason to sit it out today is poor bloodtrailing conditions. Losing a blood trail due to hunting in the rain is inexcusable.

It'll be OK.  Even though there are only 4 months left in NJ archery season, I'm hoping I'll be able to find my way into the woods once or twice in the remaining 120 days.

I spent today taking care of the Honey Dew list........ Making sure that mom knew what a sacrifice I was making in giving up opening day for her!

At 63 I've gotten wet and miserable enough times....... I'm now a "Fair Weather Hunter". I still manage to fill the freezer!

Windy and wet in south NJ but the deer were out in the fields around my house

no- this a spot we found that can't be seen from the road--old mine only has one field planted-the rest has gone fallow---
and the piece between metler and the bridge has some beans and we thought we saw one field of corn
----the nuts are knee deep everywhere!!!

Looks like a nice place Mike. Good luck to all you guys this season.

As Bamboo said, the rain stopped early afternoon so I decided to do a little still hunting. Still pretty windy. Played cat and mouse with a big old doe and a yearling for about half an hour. Unfortunately they were just over the boundary on adjoining property so couldn't go after them. Hoping they would head my way but the wind kept swirling and she eventually decided discretion was the better part of valor and vamoosed.
At least got a chance to get out on a less than perfect day.

I worked my way down to one of our bottom land stands and found this----

it was one of 25 similar loads--it appears one of our larger bears has made camp under one of my stands--I pulled it !!!
