I have been shooting carbons for the last 15 years and would really like to try some woodies (Dug fur). But I am really hard on arrows. I like to rove and shoot at about any thing. And in Arizona it is nothing but rock. I have grown real fond of my footed CX 250 I still break one now and then but they just seam to last is there any wood shafts out there that will stand up like a carbon? I should also note I shoot around 60# at my draw.

IMHO carbon is the toughest thing your going to shoot out of your bow but that's not to say a weight matched woodie wont be pretty stout I love the look of them there just something about a stick bow and a wooden arrow

I've found Douglas fir to be just as durable as carbon.

I know you said you wanted to try wood shafts but you could also try bamboo. My friend says he's yet to damage one of his like this.

I think they might be a bit better.  I hit a lot of rocks chasing ground squirrels.
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

Nope....a footed CX is about as tough as they get...in your shooting environment I'd stick with them.

I too am very hard on arrows, I also CANNOT stand to foot my carbons. I've done it but don't like it. I said that to give you a base idea of where I'm at.

Personally, I'm a fan of 2016s, BUT I will go thru 2 doz a year stumping because I stump ALOT. My CX 150s seem my most durabable BUT Sitka spruce has proven almost equal in stumping!!! Impressive.
Douglas fir is ok for a direct impact but those accidental side hits blow them up, my sitkas rarely blow from a side glance like the firs and western larch did, and frontals have been outstanding as well.

Spruce gets my vote all day long

I made up a set of bamboo arrows for my 60# bow.  So far I have hit 2 rocks smashed the points and the shafts have been fine.

2X on bamboo shafts... that stuff is strong.

Try Forrester wood shafts. They are hard woods. Saw a couple pics of a arrow with a broadhead that was shot into concrete block. The broadhead was shredded but the shaft was not broke. Some kind of exotic hardwood.

Ramin makes a very tuff stumping arrow.  That is what I use.

I like my Douglas Fir arrows but, if I wanted the absolute toughest wood arrow out there, I'd look closely at Forrester Shafts.  I may still do that, even though my Doug Fir arrows are serving me very well.

Can your footed carbons take
this  sort of treatment?  My carbons blew up on some hits.

Hope this helps.

Laminated birch is very tough. A hardwood footed shaft can be tough as well. Are you shooting rubber blunts?

sfh761

Laminated birch is supposed to be very tough. I have some 55-60 crown dipped unfletched shafts I was considering selling if interested. Also some fletched arrows.

atatarpm

I shoot birch footed with walnut. Tuff arrow.

Back in the day when I could still shoot heavy bows, I made some hickory arrows for a 78# longbow. They bounced off trees, rocks , and all sorts of stuff. They were tough as nails and were quite heavy.

In retrospect, I'm not sure you can tell there was a link in my previous message.
