I understand that Jim Dougherty passed away. The bowhunting community lost a very good man and writer. When I first started bowhunting in 1971 I bought a stack of Bow and Arrow magazines and each one had a story by him. I'll also remember him hunting goats on Catalina Island and shooting his Pearson bows. RIP
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

I followed Jim and his bowhunting adventures since 1969. Finally had the opportunity to bowhunt Antelope with Jim and Judd Cooney in 1981. Had a great time all week with these guys. Jim was a true gentlemen and Icon. One of the best bowhunters ever to walk this earth.

Wow.  Grew up reading his articles and watching videos of him(still watch them on youtube once in a while).  Tonight I grabbed a copy of Bowhunting Digest from the 70's to read while I waited for my kids at the bus stop and was wondering to myself if he was still alive.  I know his health has been poor for some time now.

A lot of people looked up to Howard Hill and Fred Bear, and rightfully so, but I always looked forward to buying magazines to read his articles.  Even as a kid there was something about his writing style and story telling ability that drew me in.

RIP Mr. Dougherty, and thank you for the memories.

One of my mentors from the 60's.......read everything I could by him or about him. Goat hunts, and javelins in the desert. May he rest in peace.........

Yeah, next to Fred Bear was Jim Dougherty in my youth bowhunting hero list.

Sad news for sure.

He had an archery shop in Tulsa years ago. Bought my first Palmer recurve from him. He was a good guy.
