The day before opening day I prepared all my gear and loaded the car. My alarm was set for 5:00 am so I could be in my stand well before sun up at 6:30.

Well my alarm for some reason was set to silent     :knothead:   and I didn't wake up until 6am. I rushed out of the house and luckily my hunting spot was only a 10 minute drive from my front door.

I pulled in and I expected the deer to already be near my stand so I took off my shoes and quietly crept toward where the deer feed in the morning.

There is a steep hill just ahead of me and the deer should be just below the crest of the ridge, I inched forward ready to draw back as I peered over the top of the hill to the valley below,

The woods were empty. I must have missed them or spooked them as I approached.     :bigsmyl:

And as they say that's when the work began. Remember that steep hill I had to drag him across it and straight up a hill so steep it felt like I was sheep hunting, I was sweating buckets and physically spent but happy as can be,
Self reliance cannot be bought

Awesome! Sometimes, I think God makes us miss because he knows there is another animal there for us to take!!

Congrats,

Congrats on an opening day buck! Great story and nice pic. It is amazing how many times a day starts out bad, continues to be bad... And then WHAMO, it turns into a great day.

Our season starts a week from this coming Saturday.

Thanks for sharing.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
