Got into my tree stand for the first time this year with hopes of taking one of a couple P&Y bucks I have had on camera.  Got in way before daylight and got settled in.  All was good until it start getting light and the wind shifted to the absolutely worst direction.  I thought about just packing it in but decided to give it a couple hours since occasionally I get a nice buck from my left which would be ok for the wind.  I use red fox scent as my cover sent and had sprayed some on my Shenee rubber bottom boots.  About 7 am I had two nice looking red foxes come by and as soon as they picked up my scent they traced me right to the tree.  It was really cool.  One looked like this years pup with mom.  Not long after I had two fawns come by without mom.  Strange but this is an urban area and lots die by way of vehicle collisions.  The fawns were eating when they started looking to my left.  After a few minutes I saw what had caught there attention.  A very nice 8 point stepped right into my shooting lane at 13 yards.  I said to my self I was going to kill this deer.  He was very high with nice long tines.  Then he got a whiff of my sent and turned towards me.  It was then that I noticed he was very narrow.  Still a great deer but not what I wanted to shoot on opening day. It was a tuff decision since he would have been my best with a trad bow.  I asked myself would I shoot him with the wheel bow and my answer was no.  So I let him walk.  A little later I had this huge Groundhog walk about 2 yards further from where the buck had been.  Did  my DBA routine.  Deep hook, back tension, aim.  Made a great shot and the Magnus 2 blade went right thru him.  Short recovery.  Packed up and headed hem.  Dropped off Mr. Whistle pig to an older gentleman that likes them.  Even the big ones.

That does sound like a great morning. You had a lot of action going on around you. Well you got some sort of a kill, and a lot of hunting season left. Good luck on the rest of the season. I can't wait until October third here!

Thanks.  It will only get better as it cools off.
