Sorry guys. Haven't had much signal, will call you T when I can see what you're up to...     :D

Charlie, there are no crops on the lease cept acorns which are dropping , they have mowed both farms which I think will keep deer somewhat to the brush lines.

Too much rain this spring and summer!

I'll be back more in the loop soon, promise!!    :bigsmyl:
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I know Mike and I and our two friends are getting ready! Can't wait to meet you in person Kenny.... Any helpful advice would be appreciated as this is our first year up there....

The conditions on the farms change every year depending on food sources. This will be the first year without crops so emphasis will be on acorns where they exist.

There are deer everywhere on the farms so burn a little boot leather the first day and use your sign reading skills. We'll all be facing the same issues.

And be sure and pay attention to Kenny. Nobody knows the deer in that area better.

You can also search past hunt threads for hints.

I won't be there until the last hunt in early January.  The acorns may be gone by then.  Kenny, is there crops on the surrounding properties?  Can't wait.  Chad

Hey guys, back in action here!!

Here is how it stacks up on the crop situation....

South farm -

Corn in bottom to West

Soybeans to the Northwest

Corn to the Northeast

North farm-

Corn in middle to North

I have more buck pics on north farm, guess they are going from the tree farm bedding South to the corn North.

Things change constantly, so what is happening today may be done tomorrow. Charlie's thought of burning boot leather may be the best to keep up...

Actually rubber boots are better, as to not leave scent everywhere!

got another pic somewhere I'd like to share, but it is in cyberspace and haven't found it yet...    :knothead:

Can't help but think that trad bowhunting only has been real good for both farms.

I think so too Charlie, and it gives the deer a place to hole up during the gun season. That's why the later hunts are good also!

Oh, and Charlie, haven't seen much for acorns on the cabin tree. Tracy said he thought it was sick, may be. Hasn't had acorns for 3? years?

But the tree in the fence corner SE of big pond on North place is loaded, I saw today when I put up a couple of stands up there......

Not by that tree....  :D

Took a short road tour tonite, the $2 tour. Saw 22 does/fawns , no bucks which didn't surprise me any. When the velvet comes off, they stay hidden for a bit....

Most were in weed and hay fields, soybeans have already lost the taste I guess.....

These 2 pics are on the North lease farm, looking from road toward the little bottom between the rock crossing and the huge cottonwood....

Good luck Guys. I've never seen so many varieties of oak trees in my life. surely one will be dropping good.

Kenny, I'm praying you still have the lease when I am in a more commutable location.
Relax,

You'll live longer!

Well, the ol gap stand still has it. NE wind tonite so I parked SE up the hill from the old tractor and eased in. Just got settled in and 2 nice does came from S and crossed at 18 yards.

I wasn't ready anyway and they were a bit to the right of me. Didn't wanna stand up cause the stand had been pinging a little. I hate that. Is there a ladder that doesn't do that?

Then 3 more that didn't make it in range from the SE across the field.

Then a smaller doe and small fawn from the W that came by at 8' from the ladder base.

Then saw 6 more in the headlights on the way back to road..

All in all, a great first hunt for the year!!   :bigsmyl:    :bigsmyl:
