I've noticed something that hasn't been mentioned. The 160 and 190 heads have a 23/64 ferrule.... the lower grain heads were made with a standard 11/32nds. My apologies to anyone who owns one of those silly 'pencil sharpener' type tapers but you'll never get the proper fit for these heads. I had to make a couple jigs to get it right...(with a belt sander).  The Woodchuck taper tool is fully adjustable with a little tinkering (esp. needed for the 190) for not just depth but angle/degrees.

Get that wood taper to bottom out the ferrule....!!!

Brock

I shoot 11/32 and there is no problem...  I have used the pencil sharpener types (True Taper) for 20 years and mounted ribteks without a problem.  I have a WoodChuck taper grinder as well and also no problem.  I put on a healthy amount of glue...grab a blade edge with pliers and while glue is hot twist the head on the end of shaft...it will tighten up like a wire cap.  Spin test it...reheat and do it again as needed.

I only use 160s and 190s though.....so cant make any claims for lighter weights...but the 160s and especially the 190s are one of the easiest heads to mount right the first time I have used.

Brock, are you getting/using a full taper.....bottoming out the ferrule?   I've never used a pencil sharpening type and thought they are only capable of certain length of taper...???

I'm sure a standard taper would work but would leave a gap and IMO would not be as strong.  I've just always tapered my woodies to completely fill the ferrule.

Brock

I keep turning the pencil type I have had for a couple decades until it stops taking off wood.  I use Doug Fir so a bit more picky to do this way....  They do NOT bottom out in ferrule but the 11/32 fill it up and fit tight.  I could actually hunt without gluing them at all to be honest...  Pulling them out of something might cause it to come off...but for hunting only in a pinch would be able to twist it on and just hunt with it.

I have never worried about it...If I can get the head on securely so it does not move on its own or wobble...then I call it good and glue them up and go to work!

^^^that's what I do.  Can't say I've ever focused on bottoming out any broadheads though it might actually increase strength a little.

I got some 160's from Brock that are in my quiver right now!

I use a "pencil" type taper tool. Then scrape 1 layer off with  a knife and straight to sand paper. It sounds like a lot of work but in reality it takes about 5 minutes at the most per arrow and they fit all the way to the bottom of the ferrul.

Oh and they look AWESOME!

For those who have difficulties sharpening broadheads with a file: Ribteks rule! Using a 3 year old file that I've been threatening to throw in the trash, I put a scary sharp edge of my 190 grain Ribteks in less than a minute. Problem solved.

Agreed....sharpened 4 tonite in about an hour. Now all the hair is missing off the tops of my knees...

So when you run out of hair on the top of your knees,(I lack hair on top of my own knees), does one go up, down or to the arms?  I got a dozen today, they do sharpen up very nice. I come up with 619 grains and 58 pounds of dynamic spine, I have two bows that shoot them very nicely, but will they kill anything?

Russ Clagett

Yours may not kill anything....you live in Iowa, and the ribtek is more of a Texas broadhead...I'm sure if you sent them to me once you become unhappy and lose confidence, I think they will kill with good effect....PM me for my address...

I had to go to the arms....

Just posted in the sponser classifieds.  I'm getting real close to having half of them gone, once they're gone, they're gone.  I also will no longer hold heads for folks saying they are sending a check/money order.  You wouldn't believe the stack of packed envelopes I have for folks who said they check was in the mail that never showed.  If I have heads when the check/money order shows you'll get heads, if not I'll get you your document back.  Terribly sorry, but it's become an issue.  Paypal will still ship fast.

Biathlonman

That's the last of them. Several recent big orders have put a big dent in them. If you want some, don't wait to long!
