With some seasons opening soon, be sure to take time and replace older ratchet straps especially if you leave them out in the elements for long periods or they are older than two or three years. Had a buddy get dumped a few years ago when an old one snapped. Pay a little now rather than A LOT now possibly. He got a very expensive helicopter ride and stay in the hospital. Not to mention couldn't hunt for a year. He was lucky.

Here are the ones I use. The ratchet is heavier and stronger than those cheap ones.

Great reminder/heads up, TJ.  Thanks for the link, too.  These look to be better straps than what I find an Menards.

Yeah Fletcher, these are really good straps. I searched and searched for better straps and for this price these are fantastic. I do spray paint the ratchets though to knock down on glare from the sun.

Very timely and much appreciated advice Tom. Five bucks and change for a new strap is cheap...it won't even get you a bandaid in the ER! Thanks and have a good, safe season.

Yes, I have bought several new ratchet straps to refurbish stands. Good reminder, though.

Great reminder Tom!

And for those stands with the cables holding the base up, replace those too! I know a fellow who took a spill because the cables snapped on his stand 2 years ago. Close call!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

This is why I try to switch out to chains in place of ratchet straps. I've seen ratchets in good shape break.
I also switch out the cables for chains also.

Good advice for those of you that have trees.
Personally, I find it rather hard to fall out of a cedar bush or clump of prickly pear.

There are really a lot of junk ratchet straps in the market.  When I see what looks to be a good one, I don't hesitate to buy it.

TTT...... And x2 on the safety harness.  I'm still banging heads trying to get some guys to commit 100%.  Not that it isn't about us, but it's more about the ones waiting for us to get home.
