I haven't tried it on my hunting bow but I use a piece of rubber tubing that is used for the peep sight on a wheeley bow on my fishing bow and it works great with bare fingers. I can shoot a lot and my fingers don't get sore.

This is one of the things that has helped my had allow me to shoot again!  I still shoot a glove with the extra serving.
