Scout barked out a whisper, frog ahead one O'clock position!  I readied my bow and slide an arrow onto the string and once the light is steadied I'm at full draw and the string slips away with a resounding Whack!

Nothing more satisfying than that solid sound of a metallic blunt or gig point making contact with the wet slimy body of a bullfrog!

We alternate taking position from scout to shooter and this goes on for the next two and a half hours.

The fire fight is intense and then at times you wondered where they all went  

When we have finally made it back to the drop zone we are beat, bushed and plain ole wore out.

The bag that we also alternatively carried is now probably close to 20 lbs and feels like a 100 lbs.

Scout and me disarm and load the prisoners for their ride to justice and say our goodbyes till the next mission.

Wow! Good job on Friday night, if y'all would go on Saturday night I could go looks like y'all had fun though.

My Sunday school teacher has to throw pencils at me to wake me up after those all nighters with the frog team. But next time we'll work it out with ya pal.

I got about 30 leg's, I say about because Scout kept shooting the leg's off some of them  

Will make for some good eating later on.

Well that tears it! I'm making me some gig heads and I'm going froggin! My oldest son likes to hand grab them but I ain't that brave. My luck I would grab a Pope and Young size cottonmouth. He can hand grab em and I'll shoot them with a bow, that is if I can hit em.

Austin let me see if I can find a pic from the past on the effectiveness of the gig point.

Now like I said it's not good for all situations and you will have to adjust the prongs back to trueness after a hard contact with trees, roots, etc...(ask me how I know) but they work.

I appreciate that. A few years back I was gonna try making some frog gig heads but never did. My son is a big time frogger. We live about 15 miles from the delta and have lots of good places to hunt them. I've always wanted to shoot them with a bow, and you guys make it look fun!

That whole Gator biz is enough to keep me on the bank... gawd! At least the machete would be strapped to my chest for a deep plunge like it Crocodile Dundee movie... Course, that's Hollywood!

Your story telling doesn't include the bugs, sweat, tears and briar rips on your hide, but the snake is a nice touch!      

2 things I can say on behalf of John's gig design: 1. The concrete reinforcement wire is much tougher than one might believe.
2. The Gorilla glue does a terrific job of securing them.

John about how heavy is that gig head? Looks deadly!

Austin, you can adjust the weight by how wide and long you make it. I made mine to be around 200-225 grains to match what I normally shoot.

I have a how to on here showing the material and steps on how to make them.

Search my post, should be able to find it.

We have found that a more narrow head and not as long as the original work better and are stronger.
