Just a couple coats to go on this bow. What ya guys think gloss or satin? I'm not a huge fan of the gloss for a hunting bow but this Ebony/Bocote sure looks sweet under gloss.

Beautiful!!

As great as it looks with the gloss finish, the hunter in me says satin. I don't see how you could go wrong either way though, and they make limb covers for shiny bows.  ;)

Then again, it would be a shame to cover up a sweet looking bow like that.

I'm glad the decision isn't mine.  :D

If it was me, I would go semi-gloss or satin. High gloss sure is beautiful, but I hunt with every bow I own, and prefer not to have that shine in the woods.

It would be gloss for me. Lot's of limb covers out there to cover them up, hide the shine and protects the finish as well.

My Hummingbird Kingfisher TD longbow is in gloss and I get almost as much joy looking at it as I do shooting it. IMHO, a gloss finish on a hunting bow isn't a negative when shooting at game. Took three deer with it last year with no spooking of any of them. Movement is a much bigger problem and one which I feel nixes more shot opportunities than anything.

Although gloss brings out the figure of the wood better, satin is my choice for any hunting bow.

I am a fan of HIGH GLOSS finish it shows off the woods and dam shame BOWYERS frown on it because it probably takes as long to polish out a bow than to glue up bow,PLUS it shows off mistakes more :-).Most bowyers do not do their bows justice with dull finish. The gent that got me serious about stickbows 30 years ago used a Frank Sanmarco longbow with high gloss finish and he shot many deer with it AND he was doing it in Westchester County NY along a commercial apple orchard that was hunted very hard by some of the "Worlds Worst Bowhunters" :-) The deer where VERY educated and that was quite sometime ago.
Thats my 2 cents worth !!

My experience is that while gloss bows look great when new, they show handling marks, scratches, scuffs worse as the Bow is used.  Satin is my vote.

X2, didn't buy a Bear 59 Kodiak reissue until they were finally available in satin. Holding out on a new Super K until you can get one in satin.

I prefer gloss. I have never had any problem with the gloss giving me away, but movement is another story.
