I shot these two boar in February of 2014, one at Spikebox Ranch and the spotted one at Lincoln Ranch.  They had pretty neat colors, so I decided to get my first hog shoulder mounts.  There is a big difference in the quality and accurate representation of the mounts.  The one from Spikebox is done excellently, as far as I am concerned.  I just got the spotted one back today, and had some issues with it.  This one was done locally, in OKC, and the other was done at Shumate Taxidermy, in Texas.  The spotted one lost alot of it's hair along the way, so it is very thin, even though it was well prepared and cooled.  Also, for some reason the cutters are pulled out, so they are nearly twice as long as they were in real life.  That may impress some, but I find it annoying, but too late to do anything about it.  Anyway, still pretty colors.

This is the pic of the first one, at spikebox.

Here are pics of the spotted boar.  He weighed 220#.  I didn't weigh the spikebox hog, but he was a little bigger.

COOL!...the nose and mouth look accurate on the spotted pig, the darker pig not so much. even though its got oversized tusk I think its a better taxi job.(from what I can see in pics.

still       cool!

Nice mounts, the picture of the spotted one hanging looks like the Lincoln Ranch.

Thanks.  I guess the pics don't show it much, and the Spikebox hog is a poor quality shot that makes it look more red than it was and with it's head in the snow.  When you are up close to the spotted hog, you see yellow through the hair, which I assume is glue, and a significant amount of the hair is missing.  Won't be using them again.

Let's see. How do I respond to this. ..
Those are nice...I mean. Those are ugly...I mean. Those are ugly but nice.....those are ugly but that makes them cool.
Hahaha
Either way. Great job! Very cool!

Big Lefty

Cool!  I was on the fence about sending a big boar I shot to the taxidermist, but it turned out great and it's one of my favorite mounts...not that there's that many too choose from though.

These are actually the first critters that I have had mounted, other than european mounts.  I will probably end up getting a mount of a nice javelina that I shot, but beyond that, I don't know.  Gets to be too pricey, and I really don't have any room for what I already have.

Brock

That one looks like the ugly bastard I shot a year or two ago...too ugly to mount so he is european mount. LOL

I like them both. Good shootin'.

I have a few questions I've been meaning to ask about hogs, but I'll start another thread instead of hijacking yours.

Thanks for sharing.

Bob

They both look pretty good in the pics. I love the white ones, and that color is a death sentence to them if they walk out in front of me! I know what you mean about the teeth. I want my mounts to look just the way they did when i shot them. I don't want anything enhanced!

Congrats on some great hogs!

Looks great to me.  They would look great on either side of a bar.
On a side note, I've seen the taxidermy books and there aren't a huge amount of choices for tooth/mouth sets for the hogs.

You said the "cutters are pulled out".  I assume those are not the real teeth but a replacement tooth/mouth as said above.

I have a javilina mount and will someday have a ferel pig mounted as I think they are the coolest thing you could put on a wall!  Don't see too many pig mounts here in MN.  Chad
