'the good old days'

i been watching the fred bear dvd's lately while preparing tackle in my den for a big upcoming hunt.

there's one scene, in the PA deer episode i think, where fred and companion are sitting by a campfire reminiscing about past hunts. amongst the conversation fred says, "arhh, the good old days".

i guess every generation has said that at some point when reflecting on times past.

my point is, we are in 'the good old days' right now. get out there and and enjoy it.

I never saw a live deer until I was 16 years old. I didn't see a wild turkey until I was 24. Now I see them nearly every day.

I grew up with fishing and hunting, and hope to pass it on to my yet to be born granddaughter. Then I too can sit by the fire and talk to her 'bout them old days...

When I was heavy into duck hunting 30 years ago I knew an old decoy carver/duck hunter who told me he stopped hunting ducks when the changed the limit from 25 to 10 "back in the old days". We were allowed around 4.

They just opened a spring "white goose" season up here. Limit of 50 a day.

I wish I knew what I know now, back in the good old days........Now I have the knowledge but I can't do it on a level that I would like due to health issues. But......I will continue to give it my best shot every time out.

Every older generation can warmly reflect on "the good old days", as long as they don't think too much about all the things that weren't so good.

Well said! The grass is always greener....

I've always said throughout history each generation has looked at the next and claimed it was getting worse... there may be some truth to this, but I think time has a funny way of changing our perceptions.

Let's see. When I started bowhunting I knew a grand total of 2 people that had ever killed a deer with a bow. I shot my first one, strapped it to the top of my 1960 V.W. and drove home with a stop at the local gas station and became an instant legend. There were no hunting shows, there were only a couple of books out. Now I have information everywhere, I see twice as many deer as back then and people actually say, "That buck wasn't up to the standards I set." So, the good old days were definitely different but I'm not sure how "good".

I guess I'm old enough, started hunting and fishing soon enough and lived geographically right enough to know just how good the "Good Old Days" were for me.

If it wasn't for the advancement of medicine, and I could, I'd flip a switch and go back in a heart beat...which I wouldn't still have if not for the advancement of modern medicine.

As long as every generation has the opportunity to look fondly back on "the good old days", we are doing all right. Let's make sure our sporting rights are preserved and our game is well managed for those coming after us.

I think to most people the good ol days were when we were younger.and stuff was new to us. We,either felt physically better. Or we had less cares and less stresses. And a lot of firsts. ( first bow, first time bow hunting, first encounters, first,deer etc.....)
