Well the weather has been fantastic and after being cooped up most of the winter months the family has been trying to catch up on our shooting. There has been many a day when the boys are ready to shoot lately and I have been too busy working to meet there patience levels...which isn't much at their age. Olen is 4 and Eli is 3 now.
The boys love going in the woods behind the house and going stumping down by the creek. Which always leads to allot of sticks being thrown in the creek.

So we get back to the house and by bride of 10 years says I'll put the kids to bed go shoot your bow. She is 5 months pregnant so I say I'll get them ready you read them a few books then I'll go shoot. Deal.
My Christmas present this year was a real nice Osage stave that worked into a 69" 56@29" tack driver. I had it tillered perfect (for me) and had twisted up a couple strings made some new Surewood Dug Fur shafts, made a leather shooting shelf with a pig skin shelf plate and grip wrap.
Turkey season less than 2 weeks away I am ready.

Then it happened the sound most of us have heard, crack at full draw...

Bows last Shot......

Now what say you.... I have a few dryed osage billets but tick tock to turkey opener. May have to bust out the Bear TD. Its 67#'s I will have to stretch a bit, lol.

That stinks, but what a final shot with the bow! Sorry that it happened to you.

I love these all wood bows so warm and inviting in the hand this is my second one to live a short life (only by second one I built). Think I may need to back the next one???? Both looks like they cracked from the side.

I'm glad you weren't hurt with that happening!  At least you have an excuse to build a new one!

I have tried building a couple, and they ended up looking like yours, without the joy of an arrow going through them.  Maybe some day I will try again, until then I like having my bows made by others that don't make (or haven't made that awful sound).  Sorry for your loss.  Maybe that is why I haven't made anymore.  Can't stand the idea of investing so much time and patience to watch one die again.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Be very careful about staying in a single growth ring on the back and leave that one as close to original thickness as possible.

After further investigation looks like the split stated at a pin knot... Grr
Back to the recurve for now no time to make a new one.

That's stinks Chad. Sweet looking bow though. I've always wanted to make and shoot an osage bow. I have a couple staves in my garage. They both are twisted and lots of knots. I figure I better set them aside and find a stave that's better for a beginner. One day...

P.S. I love the string tracker! It seems bullet proof! Thanks!
