I usually use just one layer of industrial Velcro on the arrow shelf        (softer shelf). The strike plate is still a single layer.  Has anyone else found this        to be true?

I've built out the plate for weaker arrows, and thats helped before for sure. Could be a spine thing?

Never tried that but, makes sense a softer side plate will help with a slightly overspined arrow so why not in the other direction.

Softer elevated shelf acts like a raised arrow rest I would imagine.

How much did you need to raise nock point for tune?

I have found the same thing when switching to a rug rest,I think that is why some people like those feather rests.

I can picture that. I just finished watching several videos on tuning the EFOC arrow and the point was brought out that the arrow paradox occurs in both a horizontal and a vertical plane.

I got our granddaughter a nice little Maddog bow on the St Judes auction last year and now her dad is showing interest in shooting too. I picked up a rather tired Shakespeare Kaibab recurve that I am cleaning up for him. The bow had some cosmetic problems and a warped limb, but all is good now and I betcha I get him hooked    

I had planned to add a narrow leather padding strip below the velcro strike plate and shelf. I believe I'll try making it a soft velcro strip and see how that works.

Bidtrailer, I did the same thing quite a few years ago and got the same results. It also gave me a wider spine range of arrows.

When the paradox is forced against a softer material the paradox is reduced thus the arrow recovers quicker

Hmmmm.  Did you change your nock point height, too?  If not, it probably indicates that it was too high to begin with, and raising the shelf just brought things more in line. Regardless, good it worked for you.

Some of us put a lot of pressure on the nock while at full draw and can never fully get the nock high out of the set up while paper tuning..... I know I am like that.  Anyways, using a softer shelf will absorb some of that pressure and will make the arrow recover quicker.
