i dont know if this is the right place, but i need some help with a bow, its a widow SAiii i have a line on one and seriously considering a purchase, my question is whats a good price? he says and it looks in excellent shape and he ordered it somewhere around 2002-2003. also its kind of heavy and was wondering if limbs can be bought or traded from someone with the same bow? thanks

Checkout other widows on the classifieds and determine a price range. Yes the limbs are interchangeable w/ other SA's of the same dexterity. Some feel(me included) the pre-CNC widows are the best. Not sure of the era of that 2002-2003 SA but the difference is really splitting hairs.

I agree. The bow is worth around $550 TYD. You can contact BW and give them the serial number from the bottom of the limb. They can tell you if the limbs can be reduced. They can usually take about five pounds off the limbs, if they have never been reduced.Cost is around $150 to have them reduced,refinished, and shipped to you.

seriously if your new and this might be your first bow then do buy anything thats too heavy,, why? because by the time you buy the bow plus a 2nd set of limbs you will have paid too much for a bow you can shoot decent,, unless those heavy limbs are practical and not way too much weight.

widows are nice bows  but take the above advice go to the widow wall and look in the classifieds section,, Blackwidow allows used widows to be sold there you will find many sets of limbs to put some prices together.

Tajue is right. Look for a different Widow. One that is the draw weight you want. You're going to be spending a lot more time and money than necessary to get what you need by buying the bow your describing. Lots of Widows out there.

thanks guys lots of good help i will check out the widow wall, im not a new shooter so ill give the bow a shot, its a great price so if anything i can trade it for something in my weight if i dont like it. id really like to find a trade on some lighter limbs, alot of people like to trade up in weight am i correct?

Clint- your last question is tough to answer. .. what ##s are we talking about? What length limbs?    

In my limited world - it seems the general trend is moving DOWN in poundage from the 55-65 range to 45-50. Again- that is my limited TG, BWWall, etc exposure.

the limbs are 61# 62 inch bow, i went and got it and wow i cannot believe how smooth and easy to draw this bow is, now i know why people pay for these. its easier than my 55# howatt hunter, with that said id like to get some lighter limbs if anyone is interested or can point me in the right direction. its a 99 PA iii, 62" 61# autumn 0ak widow.

Nice! I shoot the same bow at 55# @ 31". It has been my one hunting bow for the past 20 years.

Are your limbs 61# at 28"?

A bow that is too heavy for you is not a bargain.

Clint, I do not believe a '99 PA will allow for a perfect fit with another set of limbs. Pre CNC limbs will not provide the precision fit of risers and limbs like those manufactured after 2001. They will work but you may see some overlap between the riser and the limb pocket. This can be remedied by sending the bow back to the shop if it bothers you. That's my understanding anyway.

A PAIII is a one piece bow so there are no limbs to interchange..

Sorry meant to say SA. Clint mentioned a '99 PA Which threw me off. Since his SA is 2002-2003 he should have no problems. Thanks for the correction, I needed to read his post more carefully.

yes its a 1999 SAIII that was my mistake flatshooter not yours. the bow is not to heavy just heavier than i typically shoot, its heavy but quite pleasant because of how smooth it is, and yes dan it is 61# at 28". so do i have this correct? it has a date marked 12/99 but your saying its not pre cnc? and will have a better fit if i find limbs?

Clint- BW can upgrade it to CNC very reasonably (I had mine done).  And yes- they are a smooooth bow, particularly with you shooting the 62" limb at 28". Realize you have A LOT of working limb in the SA which allows the a 62" to shoot like some 64" bows.  This is likely why it feels so smooth and non stacking.
