Did this really happen or am I loosing my mind ??

I just shot my BW recurve that is 68@30 and a Tenbrook longbow that is 66@30.  Using a chronograph, I shot the same 710 grain arrow from each bow from 2 feet away.  They both shot exactly 172 fps.  I then shot the same 836 grain arrow.  They both shot exactly 161 fps.

Both bows shot the exact same speed.  Does this surprise you or did you guys already know the Tenbrook longbow was screaming fast?

I doubt the Tenbrook long bow has any secret sauce sprinkled over it that hasn't been used before by many others. Its more likely most recurves aren't as fast as our eyes and imagination would like to think they are. Im guilty, and already know better  :)

That's interesting. I've not noticed a significant difference in practical speeds between most recurved and the heavy r/d type bows, although I haven't clocked them either. I do find the r/d and recurves to shoot harder than a straight flat bow or selfbow most of the time. Now I'm curious what numbers my bow would be getting. I have a chronograph and have used it to measure my extreme spread and standard deviations as an indicator of consistent anchor points being met with changes in position but I can't recall what the speeds were.

2 nice bows. is 172 at 10gr/# screaming fast though?? prolly not nowadays especially at 30". respectable #'s and those tenbrooks sure are pretty, have fun with em!

Orion

Doesn't surprise me.  BWs are stable, but not particularly fast.  Also, hybrid longbows will shoot with most recurves. You have some real pile drivers either way.

Sapcut, just for experimentation sake, repeat your test from just a little farther from the chrono. Like say three or four feet. I recently obtained a shoot through Chrono last year and was having issues with my readings and finally broke down and read the instructions and found out I was shooting to close to it. Should be a little more than an arrows length from the first gate, otherwise the timer kicks off while the arrow is still hooked to the string and is accelerating still if your too close to the Chrono.

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

That's about what I would have expected. R/D longbows is where it is at.
