What are your experiences with the bow bolt hook-up, reliability, longevity, etc.

joe vt

I have a Toelke Whip 2pc with the bow bolt. I believe Dan will only make this option with a phenolic riser. I love this bow/system.

I have read of some bows failing with the bow bolt. Some point to a root cause of not following the correct process exactly.

We love it only thing we use. The bow just needs to be built right with a Phenolic I beam

I love the bow bolt system. Just keep the caps on it when it's broken down and you won't have any issues. Phenolic in the riser is a must

I've owned several with no problems.

Reliable, adds weight, easily transportable. Just plain awesome. I have 2 Griffins and had a Shrew. I love the bolt system.

First one coustom wood riser pulled out bowyer would not warranty
Secound great action wood riser after a few shots twist just a little
Then came Toleke, Whip came first then later a Chinook the best of all both are tight always and break down quick.
I have a sack case that has a pocket on the overlap flap that holds string and stringer..  Nice.

. If the bowyer does it and there is a choice I would definitely get the locket socket system. I have never seen one of them break even with high poundage bows. They are invisible and sooooo easy to assemble and take apart.

God bless, Steve

Have a Hoot's and a Shrew longbow with bow bolt as said phenolic risers and love the extra mass weight.

Used the bow bolt for several years. Its quick easy and holds the pieces secure and snug.  The current one is on a solid phenolic riser, the added weight adds stability and I think it adds strength.  Great system.

I've installed over 180 of them.  Needs to be done right, but when it is, great system.

Yup, I have six of that 180 plus one by Dan Toelke and one by John McCullough. My favorite takedown system for a two piece. Had a couple Locket Sockets and I prefer the Bowbolt.

I sold a bow w/ bow-bolt to a friend w/ a 30" draw and it hatched on him. It was not built w/ phenolic but with hardwood, Koa if I recall correctly. A slick and handy system but as stated in the above posts, there must be a right and wrong way to build it.

I had one on a Whip bow a few years back and did not like it.  To do it up tightly it actually went past alignment and you could feel a slight lip where the two sections met, and crossed past each other.  Most of all it felt flimsy and did not inspire me with confidence.  If I was on a long hike and slipped and banged the riser or something, I could imagine being stuck out there with a busted bow.  I would never get one again.  I like three piece t/D's - my Predator Impact certainly fits the bill now, and does inspire with confidence.

Even though I ended up selling the bow off, the bowyer was a good guy and worked with me to try and rectify the problem.

One hour of life, crowded to the full with glorious action .... is worth whole years of those mean observances of paltry decorum, in which men steal through existence, like sluggish waters through a marsh, without either honor or observation
