That is how I was taught. My 9 year old son started our fire last night with a rod and char cloth for the 1st time. I was proud of him and will show him this tomorrow. Thanks as always, your videos are great and can't wait for the big one.

Sometimes the simplest, dumbest sounding ideas are absolute gems. Thanks for making me feel like an idiot for using the dang thing backwards all this time. lol

If one ever ended up in a situation, where they injured one hand, or arm,  in a manner similar to the one shown you can start a fire with one hand using the ferro rod and steel.

That's awesome Izzy. Tim makes a good point. To expand on that, you'd find a log with a crack in it, or some other place to wedge the striker so that it's held in place for you. You can then just use one hand. good tip.

We use a ferro rod to start every fire in camp, around home, etc. I got the roll and snap style down to a science but I'm going to have to try this!
