Hello everyone...

Asking advice for sources to get the 3555 Blems by GoldTip. I am shooting them out of my 45#@28" Gary Taylor Longbow, and like the way they shoot. Debated about getting some surewood shafts, but not sure what spine range to get.

Currently Big Jim is out of 3555 in traditional, and not sure I'm a fan of the camo shafts.

Any other sources to get this good of a deal on these arras?

I have not found one. Jim is out and i don't know if he will get more. Camo are a different weight. So I won't get those. I had to order some regular ones..

The Footed Shaft and The Nocking Point (both sponsors) also advertise Gold Tip blems on the Sponsors' Classifieds forum when they have them.

I would make an attempt at the 1535 if Jim has them you'll be amazed at the result. I shoot bows in the 40-48# range and they fly incredibly well. I can weight them over 500 gr and shoot up to 200 gr at the ti.
I know its not the exact answer your looking for. But a worth while option.

Thanks for the replies... Guess I'm worried to try something new, as hopefully you can't blame me?

Matty, I may try that... 1535's should work with some weight at the tip I suppose.

Still really wanting to try the wood arrows though. General rule of thumb would be 5# above bow weight at draw length true?

ie. I shoot 45# @ 28" draw. 50-55 spine would suit me best in the wooden market?

Try the 1535's unless your bow is cut past center. A lot of guys that use the 3555's would be better suited with the 1535's ...All of these shafts made in 2015 will go by there deflection and the numbers of old will be gone, ie. 340, 400, 500, 600.

The camo's are slightly lighter per inch, but it is insignificant since it is divided up over the length of the arrow. I do however prefer the look of the wood grain also. I noticed above that the Nocking point has some in wood grain.

It is not likely that there will be any blem shipments to anyone for a little while as Gold tip is experiencing their best start ever.

That does however mean that there should be some available again this year. Last year we sold 4175 dz of the blems and did so in under eight months...we were out of stock the other months.

Word of advice, if you can get 1535's to work for you, they are more readily available in blems. For whatever reason, there are always less blems available in the 3555's than any other size even though they are the most popular trad size.

Thank you for the response. Just to ensure I am on the right track:

The 1535 is going to be less of a spine than my current 3555's. That being said, @ 45# with 28" draw, do I need some weight up front to compensate? Looking for the correct inserts and points to get me in the ballpark. Thanks

I'm not big jim. But to answer your question, no. You'll need less weight up front to make the arrow work. I can almost guarantee the 1535 will work better than the 3555.

Just placed my order with Big Jim...

Got a 1/2 dozen 1535 trad blems, some 5" fletchings, 50gr brass inserts, field point test kit (thought this was better than guessing on a single weight), a short brim cap, and some nocks.

Just finished up the cresting jig last night and got some paints... Looking forward to getting a new set of arrows all done up!

Any success with removing the markings on these arrows? They have a pre-crest that I'd like to remove - thinking some MEK or tough solvent should do, but also don't want to eat into the wood grain finish.

I remove the label on my GT black shafts by just rubbing with a rag soaked with acetone. I have never tried it on the woodgrain shafts, so you might want to try first on one of your old arrows to make sure it will not mess up that woodgrain finish.

It will come off no problem. Acetone and a scotch brite pad.

I do it with light steel wool or scotch brite. No acetone needed
