I have a KME  broadhead sharpener coming but don't have a good stone. Any recommendations?

I'm going out to the shop later and will get the specs on mine... bigger is better.

Get some DMT 3X8" diamond stones, not cheap but best there is.

Good advise.  I bought the DMT 2x6" stones and really wish I'd have gone with the 3x8". The smaller ones will work but as Charlie said bigger is better.

Roy...I'm curious how many different grits you use Roy and what grits they are?

Unless your heads are super dull or dont come with a set bevel like the tusker concords. I just use 220 wet dry sand paper on a glass plate. Try it before you spend a bunch of money on expensive stones.

The KME guys sell some good stones I have there hard  white ARK stones works great. O ya your sharpener will be in mail tomorrow Friday.    Widow

Timber, I use the extra course, and a med, then finish on leather strop. Works for me.

Once upon a time I bought 3 of the 3"x8" DMT diamond hones to a tune of over $150.I still use them,because I already have them.If I had it to do over again,I would use only wet or dry sandpaper.

Yeah I invested in three big diamond stones and I just bought a larger strop so now I can do a three inch long head and not be hanging off one side or the other.

I still haven't settled on a BH yet. I have been shooting 3 blade Woodman Elite that I could easily get hair popping sharp with a file, jewel stick, and ceramic.

I hunt elk and can only pull 50#'s@28.5", so I'm thinking of penetration, want every advantage. That is why I am thinking of either 4 blade Stinger Buzzcuts, or some kind of single bevel.

That makes it a little easier. For heads that come reasonably sharp out of the pack like Stingers and Buzzcuts you can get away with just a medium/fine ceramic and a strop of some kind. Those are easy.

Most traditional glue on BHDs are a whole 'nuther story though. Take a Zwicky Delta for example... Those need so much work on the first "out of the pack" sharpening that you'd be seriously under-gunned even with a XXC diamond. What weight single bevel are you thinking you'll be trying out? I mean just the broadhead weight not including any adapter. Lots of single bevel options out there and which one of those you choose will also influence stone choice. Thanks!

Listen to Ron. He is the best out there. Will never steer you wrong. Besides that the KME broadhead sharpener is his baby. KME is #1 in customer service, bar none.

For the RMS, Cutthroat you might be able to get away with a medium grit ceramic or diamond because I think the factory bevel is pretty nice on those but my personal philosophy when choosing a stone for any sharpening job is: When in doubt-go coarser. Honestly a coarse and fine ceramic or diamond followed with a simple cardboard strop should be plenty adequate for the Cutthroats. Give me a call if you have any questions. Thanks,

I switched to a single bevel head for this year's upcoming hunting season and chose the Cutthroats.  I just received them and have started to run them through Ron's KME with great success.  They come with a nice bevel but are definitely not hunt ready.  I did what JimB recommends and just used wet/dry sandpaper of various grits.  Works great.  You will love that KME and I don't think you will be disappointed in the Cutthroats either.
