Just got on Gregg's list for a new bow and I'm trying to decide between the Assyrian and the Elkheart. Any input from guys that have shot or owned both ? Which would offer more clearance from a treestand..56" Elkheart or 60" Assyrian ? Would love to see pictures of both if you have them !

I would talk to Gregg himself, he will tell it to you straight about the differences between his bows and I'm sure steer you right.  The Assyrian is his longer model recurve and though I have not shot it I know its got to be excellent.  I'm surprised you're not considering the Helm's Deep, as that would be more to scale compared to the Elkheart.  I have shot the Lil Favorite/Helms back to back with my Elkheart and honestly they are damn close.  Gregg told me a customer recently chrono'd both within only a few fps of each other meaning it was prolly only a difference in the shooter's release shot to shot.  The Helms is darn quiet, I'd say 'almost' as quiet as the Elkheart but the Elky definitely has the edge with no string contact.  The Assyrian shouldn't be all that different from the Helms save for a longer riser section.  Call or email Gregg.

I have an elkheart and I just love the thing.  Gregg did a stunning job on it and it shoots right exactly where I want it too.  It fits my hand perfectly.  Its on his site.   Wenge/Myrtle/kudo horn elkheart.

I'm on the list for an Elkheart, haven't decided on 56 or 58".

I own one of each, got the Assyrian first and love it.  It's a 60" #51@28.  It wasn't built for me and is a few pounds lighter than I wanted so I had Gregg build me an Elkheart 58" #56@28.  I went back and forth, recurve or longbow, before ordering the longbow. Reasons? The Elkheart doesn't require a stringer and is easier getting through the briars. As to differences in shooting, both are quiet, shoot where I want them to and fit my hand perfectly.  I'm saving the recurve for when my shoulders force me to drop a few #'s.  

I haven't chronoed them but the recurve is point on at 50yrds with a 550grn arrow, the Elkheart is point on at 60yrds with a 600grn arrow. Split finger, middle finger in the corner of my mouth.

I don't have one yet but let me add this about Greg.
I traded for a Shrew last year built by Greg in 2008. The bow failed and he still offered to make it right. That sir is a good guy.

That's not the first compliment I've heard regarding the cast of the Elkheart.  I've shot them both.  They're both beautiful bows and shoot very well.  Me, I'd buy an Elkheart because I prefer the hybrid style bow.  YMMV.
