Hey Folks,
I'm looking for a piece of walnut dymondwood big enough for a one piece longbow riser. If anyone has a piece I could buy please let me know. Jason built me a Kanati and the postal service managed to break it in half during transit. It was the last piece he had. If anyone has a piece I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!
Charlie

Check with Dave at Schafer Silvertip, he might have/spare some?

You could maybe also sell your broken pieces for knife wood to recoup your loss.

Well checked with Schafer Bows and they have some, but not willing to sell. I didn't realize the plant had burned that made the dymondwood.
Looks like I may be out of luck for a while.

Yeah Matt I was afraid it was damaged when I saw the box and sure enough when I opened it I was really disappointed and a bit irritated.

Too bad Dave couldn't spare any.  As an alternative you might consider a nice piece of figured Chechen.  It often has similar coloring.

That sucks!!!  The plant burnt down a few days after I ordered mine. Jason had told me he only had a few left.  Sorry to hear that.

There are a couple of alternatives...Dymalux and Spectraply...I had a riser made of Dymalux once from A&H that looked very nice...they only made a very few for some reason...Spectraply gets used a lot in gunstocks which makes me think it would work just fine for risers...on the other hand there may be a good reason that people did not appear to be using it before...this may be a picture of Dymondwood and Dymalux side by side...not sure what the Jeffery riser is made with

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

You could take a piece of brown actionwood, cut it slightly over-sized for the riser and send it out to have it stabilized (resin impregnated). You should get pretty good penetration on a longbow riser sized piece. I could run a test piece if it interests you.

CLOVIS

Where do you send wood to have it resin impregnated? In the early 70s I sent it  to Pa. but they are no  longer in business. I used solid maple pcs. in 2 x 6 x 36 several different colors.

Spectraply is Actionwood by a different manufacture.  It is used through out the industry for risers and is a great laminated wood product.

We like it over the Dymalux product that we've used.

That is what I am switching to Mike since the dymondwood factory burnt down. It's good stuff, just a few ounces lighter in the handle compared to dymondwood.
