I was wondering if anyone has purchased this pack and what your thoughts are?

I would like a pack that can be synched down for day pack use, yet large enough for 6-7 day hunts. When this pack is synched down, will the top extend above the hunter's shoulders?

I bought one for my WY elk hunt and also wanted it to be a multi use. I found it cinched down well but has lots of straps so it takes a minute or two. I also found it handled weight really well...but did not get to test it on elk meat unfortunately. The only draw back I found was the fabric is a little scratchy or noisy. I am ultra picky about that so it might not bother you. I have a friend that bought one and thinks it's great and has no problem with the noise. I love the versatility but the noise is a tough thing for me to get over.

The top is actually removable but I did not notice it being a problem when I left it on and cinched it down. I have no complaint other than the noise.

This is the best backpack I ever bought, and I have backpacked with many fine packs for a month or so every year for more than 40 years.

That said, I would not use this backpack as a day pack. Instead, I would carry a lightweight day pack that would double as a stuff sack when I was carrying the backpack.

I bought the 1850 with plans if I like it to get the 5200.  You can take the carbon fiber frame off if you like but I'll always have mine on for when I get an elk down.  This will be for elk hunting only, I use a fanny for all other hunts.  You don't need to carry a separate day pack all you need is to buy the 1850 pack, it fits on the same frame and harness.  I'm going to buy the 5200 bag only for $180.  Pack in with the 5200 and carry the 1850 bag in the 5200.  Take 5 minutes to change bags.  Waiting for a sale to but the 5200.

Here's a video about taking the 1850 off the frame, 1 minute 30 seconds.  Couldn't find a video about changing packs.

Kifaru has a new pack called the Mountain Warrior. I just read a review on Rockslide forum. Looks pretty nice.
