Today I felt a little weird not working...when I told my wife she rolled her eyes. Honest to goodness though since my schedule has changed and I no longer work Fridays, it felt odd not being there. I ran into town to pick up a little package from BigJim and rolled by the office. By the time I made it home and started tuning my new bow it was time to get in a tree. I reluctantly put up my new bow for another day and grabbed my gear.

I had a south wind which is good for several sets on my little farm. I headed for a set my wife helped me hang earlier in the year. It was a new set last year and I killed a dandy old buck out of it. This year I had had mixed luck...no shooters but fun just being there. I had decreed that any antlerless deer was in trouble if they used the trail a scant 10 yards from the base of the tree. First good shot I get...

So after being entertained by turkeys, a skunk and squirrels, I look up to see a beautiful site. A group of does making their way on said trail. I quickly got my ELs up to confirm a yearling doe in the lead. Behind her was a long nosed doe I know and don't trust. We have been here before...and she nailed me before she could get broadside. I know when I am licked, so when the lead deer got to the money spot I drew.  I burnt a hole in the spot behind the shoulder and let it drop.

As good as it gets really. Sticking in the ground on the other side, my Trad Only 300 and Tuffhead broadhead appeared where the deer's shoulder was. She mule kicked, ran 20 yards, stopped, then hit the deck. Literally 10 seconds and it was done. I finished up my hunt, passing on an older doe with a small fawn and just enjoyed this first Friday off work  :)

I called my wife and asked for a transport. She drove the ranger to the back of the farm and her smile made my night. We are a 4 deer family. I need one more but will only attach my last tag to another mature buck or nothing...there is one that is rubbing my nose in it around here, and he will make a lot of crockpot meals  :)

I snapped a photo before the boss showed via timer. My apologies for the pics. I elected to tag, call it in, and butcher tonight as we are expecting a warm day or so. I took the liver for some liver and onions and the heart as well for a stuffed dish I have been wanting to try. Not a bit of this meat went to waste as I know lean winter days and a long summer approaches before we can chase these beautiful, awesome animals again    :campfire:

*Equipment: Talltines longbow, 57 at 30. Trad Only 300, 50 gr brass insert, Tuffhead Meathead with a 100gr insert. Total arrow wt 677 gr.
