May be off topic but i wanted to get any input / opinion on my land plan. This is ground i recently purchased in nw arkansas.

I have two areas on my land that I want to convert to deer bedding/cover. I would like to give the deer over time some browse in these areas as well and would like any opinions on what I should do. Both areas are mixed grass hay fields now but are two completely different soil types.

The first area is about 7 acres in size and consists of heavy clays that stay wet during the Winter and Spring. You can see from the areial attached that some of this area has standing water in it for long periods of the year. This arial was after a flood event so it is a bit exagerated. Most of this ground will have to have something that can stand a bit of wet feet during the winter/spring.
Soil ph in this location is 5.0-6.0.

The second area is 2.5 acres that is some really good well drained sandy loam soil that is very fertile. The soil ph in this area is 6-6.5. It now has a big stand of johnson grass encroaching in on it now.

Both areas are within the 100 year flood plain but do not flood every year and when they do it comes up quick and goes down quick. I doubt any of the area would ever be under water more than a few hours.

Any input woul be appreciated before i get to work:)

In the wet areas I would try Highbush cranberry. It is a native plant, provides cover and food, and does well in wet areas. I have used this with good success. You can order 2 yr old plants by the 100 pretty cheap.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
