.....I'd just stood up to stretch my legs and I hear a commotion behind me....I turn to see two deer running at me...

By the time I grabbed my bow and got the camera on I barely got them stopped....

At the shot I knew it was little forward, looked and sounded to be right on the shoulder, good penetration, and she was off.....

But....I watched her run off and out of sight at about 100yds....hmmmm....

Searched the ground with bino's for over an hour from the tree for my arrow and blood, but didn't see anything...hmmmm...

Shot was dead center of photo in sunny area, about 20yds...
•

This is beautiful ground...
•

After an hour I climbed down and packed up...
•

Found only this at the spot of the shot...
•

But quickly along the trail it looked like this...
•
•

Last I saw her, she'd just cleared this stonewall ahead. After following this blood for 100yds....I figured she'd be just over the wall out of sight...
•

Another 50yds. over the wall and still no sign of her except an ongoing heavy bloodtrail....then I saw my arrow....

To be honest, I was starting to get a little worried. She was heading for the border of the property I can hunt, and she'd gone too far now to be hit like I thought.

But the blood was still steady, not as strong as before, but still very good....I continued...

Another 100yds and over the hill I see a deer standing, and thru bino's I can see she has bloody front legs!!!

Within seconds I see her "plop" down, she's about done...
•

She's wavering side to side, carrying her ears low, and her tail is randomly flipping wildly. I wanted to walk away as I hate to watch an animal die...

But at the same time I didn't want to lose sight of her if she managed to get up and walk....even though I doubted she would....I stayed to keep her in sight...

I asked for this to be over a quickly as possible...

A short time later, she weakly got to her feet, stumbled.....and fell dead....I gave thanx....
•

She was a great looking deer...
•

1 1/4" VPA...
•

I was so thankful it ended positively, just wish the shot had been better, she deserved a quicker death....

I'd hit her a bit further forward than I thought....right on the point of the shoulder and angling into the base of the neck above the brisket....honestly, I got lucky!

28years behind a trad bow and I still can't get enough...

Never thought about this! Very cool! Congrats on your harvest! Men have been hunters since the beginning of time and it doesn't always happen as clean as we hope.but you succeeded in getting your game and you appear to be a very noble hunter so I congratulate you!
I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6

I admire your respect for the deer you hunt. Awesome photos, and a beautiful looking deer. I'm glad it ended well!

Congrats Curt! Great story and beautiful pictures.
I wanted to be out hunting yesterday and had the same thoughts of 12-13-14 and shooting a deer but it was my birthday so I celebrated that instead of hunting.
Congrats again!
