I'm thinking how much better the bow (and the originals) would have looked with matching wood overlays on the tips in place of the white.

In these pics it looks like the limbs are finished in a high gloss.  On the Bear site I'm sure they looked flat black which I much prefer.  Anyone know for sure what I can expect when it finally arrives please?

The pics that I have on my phone are definitely glossy limbs on both sides.

As to finish, I hear they can be ordered in either flat or gloss AND 60" or 64".  Let's hope Bear would omit the inserts if requested.

The '59 replica Kodiak is now available in Gloss or Satin.  The information on the Bear website is a mix of correct and incorrect information.  The description of the new Super Kodiak says "Tips are handcrafted and layered with white fiberglass then the bow is polished to a high gloss finish".
However, under features it says Satin finish. Of course, it also lists a feather arrow rest (NO), leather grip (NO), and 60" AMO (60" AND 64" AMO).

The picture on the site makes it look like the limbs are flat, but I haven't seen one in person to be sure.

The New Super Kodiak is all Gloss, and the limbs on the bow on the website were gloss, but were photo-shopped a bit and appear flat.

I am on the waiting list with Big Jim but I can tell you I want the inserts for a bow quiver. I far prefer that to the various rubber, velcro and clip method where they slide over the limb.

None the less, it sure is nice to see Bear bringing back these nice looking bows again with a little new technology . The excitement is back for me again to have them look like they did in the Grayling years.

I've just received the following confirmation from Bear Customer Care.....

The entire finish on this bow including the limbs will be a gloss finish.

Bit of a shame as I really liked the satin of the limbs combined with the gloss riser.  Does anyone have any ideas how I could take the glossy limbs down to a satin finish without ruining the bow!?

Thanks,

Dave

Since these are 1-piece bows, I would think it would require a pretty meticulous masking job where the limbs meet the riser to get the limbs in one finish and the riser in another.  Assuming this gets done OK,  you could probably steel wool the limbs to dull them up and then hit them with a satin finish??

Thanks Bryan.  What do you think of the all gloss limbs?  I guess I'll get used to them but would have preferred the satin shown on the official site.  Bit misleading really.

Cheers,

Dave
