I prefer to use Dawn dish soap.  HOT water is key.

Pretty much what I have been doing. Looking for an easier way. I have found that no matter how clean I think I get things the first time. A little bleach in a bucket of water always shows what I missed.

A wire brush works niepcely for the saw....then you've got s messy brush!   Actually I've got some surgeons plastic scrub brushes and they work wonders for all kinds of cleaning chores.

I used an old toothbrush recently along with hot water and dish washing soap-seems to work well on partially serrated knives and saws and you can clean up the old toothbrush to use again...just not for your teeth.

OK, yeah, very hot water, Dawn dish soap and a green scrubbie pad are what I use.  I also would use an old toothbrush for difficult to reach areas.

Never a good idea to put a knife in the dishwasher but for this chore it is awesome ! Every nook and cranny comes clean and if you run the sanitize cycle the water temp is 160+. JMHO

All good ideas.  If you have a REALLY heavy duty job you can get some sodium hydroxide from the pool supply, dilute it pretty well, (always pour IT into water, never pour water into IT) and use it on the really nasty messes.  Make sure to rinse with copious amounts of water and wear decent gloves and eye protection.  LOL

Dawn, hot water, and a dish rag. KISS method works for me.

In the field, I saw a little wood to clean up my pack saw.  Very fast, very easy, pretty effective.

Coot,  I have been known to saw logs while in the woods too, but we are knife cleaning here !

Try rubbing alcohol......A good friend of mine used it after we finished with a Colorado elk.

Dawn, hot water and a toothbrush.

Answer me this: you have a nice leather sheath for you knife and after you work up a deer, that knife is a mess: covered in blood and fat that doesn't come off easily.  What next?  I sure as heck won't shove it back into the leather sheath so what do you guys do next?  I hunt fairly close to civilization and my car, so I usually just wrap it up in some paper towels  and throw it into my trunk until I get home. Any other ideas?

I wipe off what I can then put it in the sheath. Clean when I get home.

I use dish soap and hot water like everyone else....also have an old toothbrush I use to get in all the tight spots.

First, no saw, bone everything  no bone dust to deal with! Agree with others on soap and hot water.

Vinegar is also a good, natural cleaner.

Handwipes carried in a ziplock bag in field work great!

Those little wipes K.F.C. had would be great, too!
Always near water when hunting!
