Hello fellow gangers
I am looking for a place where I and 1-2 buddies can hunt pigs spot and stalk.
The perfect terms would be :
Big area with lots of pigs so we can hunt for about 5 days
We would like to sleep in our tents in the terrain
We would like to hunt without a "over the shoulder" guide
I know its a lot to ask but I am sure its out there somewhere.

Anybody know a ranch, outfitter, area or the like that could accommodate this ?

Wild Things has a bunkhouse but I guess you could pitch a tent. Pretty easy from a travel logistics perspective too. I'll be there next week.

it is doable in lots of places.  Wait and see from the folks here.

All I can offer is from a public land perspective such as Wildlife Managment Areas and state forests. But, with the problem that pigs are to ranchers and farmers here I don't think you'd have any problem. Texas seems to have a lot of rancher possibilities, but the northern part of florida also has plenty of people happy to be rid of a few pigs. I would suggest that if yoy don't get any luck here (which I am sure you will!) try going to one of the forums like Traditional Bowhunters of (enter southern state name here).

South Carolina has some great places for hogs, especially in the Francis Marion National Forest. You do have to camp in designated areas, though. What time of year are you planning?

We are selling hunts this year and do have some spot and stalk land. Other than helping out and stand sites, we don't hold your hand unless you need it. A lot of our hunts are from stands during daylight or dark (more productive but not always as much fun)  There is also access with in about 20 miles or less to 20,000 acres of WMA that typically holds few hogs.

thanks, bigjim

Thanks for the advices guys

Its not a must to sleep in tents at all I guess.. the logistics would be much easier in a bunk house where food was taken care of...

Thom, do they have some good sized boars also on wild things ?

Looper, would it be possible to find hogs everyday in the national forest ? We are talking about early-mid june so far but are open to other dates

Jim, do you have enough og spot and stalk hogs for 3 guys for 5 days ?

Keep the advice coming guys

For some reason I am a little hooked on trying some areas like California hillside country type, anybody know good outfitters/areas there ?

I was hunting in Texas, two times, with Pedernal bowhunts, is a nice place, plenty of javelinas and some pigs. Was some years ago.

I second Wild Things in Estill, South Carolina.  Owner Andrew Harper is a consummate Southern Gentleman, a wonderful host, and has a large tract of property along the Savannah River.  huntwildthings.com

White Oak Creek WMA in Northeast Texas has a March hog season. It has 27,000 acres and is covered up in hogs. Not sure about areas to camp but I'm sure there are some. You can look it up on the web.Look at the Texas Parks and Wildlife website and all the info should be on there.I live about 45 minutes from there and have duck hunted the area some and deer hunted several times. There was hog sign every where.I've always said to myself that I would hog hunt there in March but never go because I'm usually fishing alot that time of year.

Wild Things is as much a vacation as a hunt. But you can hunt as hard as you want all week long and still have a fantastic supper ready when you come in.

Hello Jacob,
Wild Things has a bunch of hogs, and they do have some big ones. I've always wanted to do a Northern California hog hunt too, I'm sure I'll get to it someday.

Here are a couple nice pictures from the last time I pulled cards.

And then there is this guy, this is the dude I'm looking for next week. I think I've got a chance at if wind and moon cooperate. His back legs are in one set of tire tracks, nose is in the other:

There is at least one bigger that's been seen by a few hunters towards the middle of the property. I plan to put a camera out there next week to see if I can get a proof-of-life picture of him.

Don't get me wrong, hunting is tough and lots of guys don't get shots. Hate to set a bad expectation there. If you are looking for a couple thousand contiguous acres for spot and stalk, without any other hunters or guns, I think it would be hard to do much better. My two cents.

sorry for the late respond, been a little busy.
Thom, my buddies are toting comp.....s    :scared:    :D
I think I saw on the wild things website that it was trad only, is that correct ?

Would june be a good time or would it be hot, bugs, snakes, thick and green like "killin stuff" writes ?
Thanks
Jacob

It would be exactly like "Killing stuff" writes in June.RC

If you want to come to north america in June hunting you might want to lean toward bears. If you are dead set on hogs I'd suggest Australia. You'd get 10X's the shooting in. Wild Things gives up a few pigs but most guys go home without meat. It's more of a social outing, nothing wrong with that though.

California is tuff in June (the heat) the best time is early winter and all through the spring. Mid to late spring is best IMO because they will be out eating grasses. Look at Tejon Ranch archery hunt. There is a ton of pigs there.. Note: California is expensive to hunt from out of state.

The old order is passing. Swiftly receding into memory are the days of strong, earnest men who followed an atavistic yearning to pit their skills against wild animals.

The best time is Oct- April. Very hot and lots of bugs and snakes otherwise.
