the burr buck...he had more burrs than me!

standing in my stand this morning freezing, my feet and hands couldn't take it anymore.
my thought was to head out and go get a cup of coffee then come right back out and finish out the day in the stand.

but when I started out I somehow got sidetracked fallowing a deer trail into the thick stuff trying my best to avoid the burr bushes, using my pruners and my bow to push them aside.

I made it to an old tree that I had killed a buck from years ago, back then it was just a big sapling just big enough to hold me and my stand up about 10 ft with some vines for cover.

while I stood reminnissing with myself, I thought that I should come back to this spot with my stand since the deer trails are everywhere within shooting distance of this tree.

I know the bucks cruise this thick stuff, since I have killed a few while sneaking through here catching them running does around .

so on I went sneaking along clipping stuff out of my way till I got to an old dead tree that had fell , still thinking of all the good hunts I have had in this thick stuff.then I heard a grunt.. then another and another.
then horse weeds crashing and snapping. now im having visions of a big ol buck chasing a hot doe so I slip an arrow on the string and step up on the log for a better view.

I cant see them but they are getting closer, so I step down off the log.

then I see the doe about 20 yds. moving to my right.

I lower to one knee and get the bow pointed with tension on the string, looking behind her for the monster that is chasing her.

out he bounces straight at me..ugh..ugh..ugh..ugh.. grunting .

as soon as I see him I draw, and in three bounces hes about 5 yds. eyeball to eyeball.

he stops and I automaticly drop the string, straight into his chest the arrow slipped in to the fletching, he spins to make his escape but its to late.

he has a hole through his lung and his heart all the way to the gut.

not exactly the monster buck I was having visions of but I got caught up in the moment, I have let bigger bucks walk this week in hopes of a big boy,
but I have another tag when archery season comes back in.

NICE!! The only way that could have been better, would be for it to have been one of the bigguns you were hoping for. Way to go, good luck after the guns

That's too cool!  It's all about the hunt.  If you're enjoying yourself, then what does it really matter how big he was.

Nice deer!  Thanks for sharing.
