What is the best way to drag a deer up hill ? I have a new spot and if I get lucky, i would be face with dragging a dead deer up a steep, 300 yard hill.

I have a two wheeled deer cart that sure makes it easier.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

We talking about a cut block hill? I've used them roll up plastic sleds(2 riveted together), and a rope and tackle using stumps and trees to "logg" them up the hills here. Once took me 6 hours the get a heavy black bear up a 500m hill. I always carry climbing rope in the truck, just never know.

A Warn winch   :biglaugh: . Man I couldn't help it! Us idiots in coastal Mississippi think an ant bed is a steep hill.

I killed a 200 lb buck back in September not 400 yards behind my house. Had to drag him up a hill almost too steep for a 4 wheeler, the key word being ALMOST haha. After about 100 feet I got the 4 wheeler. Hell I had a hard time putting him on the 4 wheeler. So, my final answer is get help. Lol.

timbermoose

Used one of them once too. Worked pretty good.   :bigsmyl:

Know any young guys that can help.......? I do like your confidence.....lol!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Quarter him out and pack him. Deer quarters don't weigh much.

That is the ticket if you have much distance to cover.  Check the game laws regarding proof of sex staying attached but removing organs and hide cuts a lot of weight

Ron I did say If I get lucky, but for the past 15 years most of my spots that I used were no longer available. This is the best plot I've been on in a long while. The fact that it is a bi#$h of a spot to get to, makes it so much better.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Having hunted for the last 15 years on Long Island where hills are mere speed bumps, it's actually a pleasure to now hunt land that resembles the wild and is as remote as I could get.

The trouble with 1/4s Centaur is, you cant throw him over the hood (34 ford) drive around town to show him off.  ..OE

OE,
Put a quarter on each fender of that 34 Ford and use the antlers as a hood ornament.

A strong 18 year old son, works best for me!

stalkin4elk

Gutless, boneless, load fullsize backpack, walk 300 yards, done in about an hour, seriously.

Or else google Simson Capstan rope winch if you want noise, hassle, and an empty wallet.

Let's see, my son I had to pack his mule deer over a mile and ascend over 1000 vertical feet on a 80 to 100% rocky slope.
