It's been a while in a few ways. I have not posted here in a while but I'm always following. Also I haven't killed a deer in two years with my bow. I missed a beautiful 8 or so pointer last year chasing a doe and gave him a haircut at 35 yard right under the sweet spot. Two of my boys have started hunting and I've been trying to give them time in the woods during the gun seasons and both have harvest their first deer in the last two years. Work has been sucking up a lot of time so when I do get out it is such and escape for a little piece and quiet.
So, I've made it out a few times this year and I have a trail cam up at a spot that has a nice 9 frequenting a scrape but only at night. Another farm I hunt is a great travel route especially during the rut so last Saturday I was in the stand early in the rain, sleet and wind just being thankful I was out. About 8:15 I looked up the hill and just caught a deer with it's nose to the ground headed after an unknown girlfriend so I grabbed my call and grunted, then a snort/Wheeze. (I love snort/Wheezing a deer). I grabbed my bow, turned down wind and waited. In a few minutes here he comes to inspect. He worked his way to a whole 3-4 yards then gave me a perfect broadside shot when I hit anchor, picked my spot and let the string slip to send a 150 gr Woodsman connected to a Trad Only 340 with a 100gr brass insert right to the spot! It sounded like I hit a watermelon and he was off. In the 25 seconds that he ran he made it about 125 yards the fell over from a perfect shot to the heart. What a feeling! He's not the biggest but a trophy no less. My time is limited to hunt so beggars can't be choosers. I'm posting this right now between jobs and deadlines but I have to show and tell. Congrats to all that have taken some great animals and most of all thanks for sharing your hunts. I have to share because it is the least I can do to give back to the campfire.

The bow I'm shooting a Bob Lee Hunter, 56#'s and Wensel Woodsman broadheads.

This is always how it goes. I went and pulled the trail cam card from the camera that I have set up behind my inlaw's house and wouldn't you know it, a large 8 point is on the scrape IN THE DAYLIGHT!
All the pictures that I got last year and so far this year have been at night. I knew this would happen so I am not surprised. It only gives my brothers something to needle me about. I'll put some pics up the next time I pull the card.

I'm going to keep the camera out especially now to see what shows up during the rut. Last year in the same spot I got pics of 8 different bucks in 6 days. I'm using these now to get my oldest son more worked up to complete his hunter safety to get his license. He's done the 3 years of apprentice and he needs to get his license now. This summer with baseball, work and life in general we were unable to make the classes so now he is doing the online study on is on fire to get to bowhunting. He's 13 and shoots an old but pretty 45# Bear Grizzly and he's a darn good shot at 18 yards. Hopefully we can post a picture of success in the near future with his first archery harvest.
