Sat this AM with my Shaggie coat on my Waldrop pac seat just for a change. After a brief nap I see a deer a long ways off. I look at my watch, it's 7:30. I watch as the deer feed down the woods road towards me, 60 yards,40 at 30 I flip my arrow holder off and put tension on the string. It keeps coming straight on to me. It's a button buck, and decides to stop and feed 8 yards from me. He looks, stamps his front foot twice and fed some more. I can't move or he will pick up the motion......I wait.

Hmmm, I am assuming there is more to this story ....?

I love my pac seat and ghillie.  Seeing deer eye to eye ... well there is just nothing like it.

So.......I wait for him to move and sure enough he goes broadside at 8 yards.....right behind a bush. I wait......he turns and walks straight away from me nice and slow. At something less than 20 yards he stops, then turns to the left slightly quartering away. I come to full draw, pick spot half way back his rib cage and let her rip. At the shot he wheels to the right and my arrow sails by and skitters up the logging road. He does not bolt but starts feeding again and wanders up the road and out of sight.

I missed again......    :banghead:      :banghead:     in hindsight if I had been using a bow quiver I would have had a second shot.........but it's a lesson learned.

Now that sounds all to familiar. Be patient, his daddy might return on another day. Be safe and "Keep'Um Sharp". Thanks for sharing.   :campfire:

U will get em next time Ron!! I don't use a bow mounted quiver either but I always have an arrow out of my shoulder quiver waiting and ready... just in case.

No deer killed but a great hunt and encounter nonetheless.

Ron, you were less than ten yards away from a buck, on the ground.  You won !

That's what its all about Ron! Getting the shoot off is a reflection of your hunting skills! Sometimes we all miss but when I know I did everything right to get the opportunity to get a shot off no matter the outcome is telling me I'm doing something right. Your time is coming!
