Another general archery season closed this weekend in MT. There are still some special river bottom archery districts that remain open into December. But, the outings into the hills and their drainages, with bow in hand searching for elk, will have to wait for another season again.
I got in a lot of good hiking exercise, scenic views, stump shots and I saw a few critters too.
More of the same with the preseason scouting.

and a few huckleberries.

Huckleberry Pie!

three Bulls preseason in the meadow.

Then there was the Archery season. the elk had been here! and were likely around somewhere??

Bears

one of my outings found me back at one of wallow areas. I set up behind some ground cover and sat, did some cow and calf calling, and sat some more.
when i got up to head out, i heard some movement, scurrying and brush and bark.

momma and cub went up the tree just on the other side of the wallow i had been sitting next to.   :scared:
I have run into bears back here several times over the years. On the next outing i had a can of bear spray on the hip belt of my pack.
another season comes to a close.

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Neat pictures. Sounds like you had a good season. Good enough to start looking to next year.
