I was wondering what other tradgangers use for a buck lure for whitetails. I've been using Tinks 69 for the last few years. I was in Gander MNT looking at all the different brands of doe in heat and am thinking of trying something else. What do you guys use and why?

I use golden estrous it works, but nothing works all the time. Ive killed a couple bucks using it but some years I think nothing will work. I have more luck with the primos can more than any call or scent combined I wont hunt without it.

Well with Cwd discovered in different parts of Pa natural deer lures are outlawed so will have to rely on hunting the old way without

I open up mock scrapes with my own pee, have been doing this for several years now and am pleased with the results. Not only do bucks continue to visit but also does, Save your money and use your own you will be happy you did.

I've been using Code blue, Tinks, and Wildlife research for years. I've actually never had it bring in anything but small bucks and only a few over the years.
At this point I've just started using it as a cover scent around my stands while carefully preventing contact with it myself...I hate smelling!
I have had good luck using scent over scrapes though! Got my nicest buck yet last year over a doctored scrape. X2 on the personal addition  :p  I normally mix in some deer scents/urine with it

X4 on James Valley. Smokey's pre orbital works great on licking branches too.

I'm urban hunting and so far what worked for me was end of trail 309 I think its called,, I've shot 5 or 6 bucks that came right up to it..

it has never worked as a drag scent though needs to be hung where the wind is blowing into the thickest, swampiest, briarest piece of cover I can find and it draws em right out!

heard alot about the james valley which scent type did you guys who use JV prefer?

IMHO peeing in a scrape is not the best way.  I absolutely believe there is a difference in the odor of predator and non-predator urine.  When I trapped I learned a lot about urines and gland lures, what works and what doesn't.  Coyotes sign post all the time but you don't see them pissing where a rabbit or deer has pissed. Yes they might out of curiosity check out where a rabbit or deer pissed, sometimes they will even check out where a human pissed, but they know the difference.   If you don't think that urine can smell different based upon what you eat.... eat asparagus for a week and report back.

Yes, peeing in a scrape may work sometimes, but even then I believe a buck deer knows the difference between another buck's and a human's piss.  I personally believe that if he is checking out your scrape it is because it is out of curiosity not because he thinks you are another deer.  My guess is that the fresh smell of dirt drew them in and then like a lot of deer they start sniffing out your scent to see how old it is (i.e. how much a threat you are).

It works for blacktail bucks also.  I pee all over these rubbing posts and the ground around them, have bucks of all sizes come in and smell them, rake their antlers on them, rub their glands on them, and quite often stop to pee on their own tarsal glands before they leave. The area turns into a scent bomb after awhile!  click on the pic for the video...

Thanks gentlemen, I do make mock scraps and do a little rattling. I've had a lot of success with a bleat can. Just wondering if its worth putting doe in heat out anymore.

not debating but I've pissed out of many stands in many years and I've yet to have a buck come over and sniff the wet spot or even have anything seem like it was coming in on the smell,, never spooked anything either though so who knows.
