It seems every year around this time I catch a cold that hangs on for weeks.  It makes getting up in the morning hard, and staying quiet in the stand hard also.  Do you guys have any home remedies or tricks?

M60gunner

Only trick I know is a product called "Cold Calm". My wife swears by it. You take it when you first feel any symptoms. Has worked for me also. She gets it at Walgreens or CVS.
If your symptoms are more advanced this stuff does not work, only down side.

Evan Williams Honey reserve...feel a sniffle coming on it will clear it up!

My dad's remedy when I was a kid was a mix of whiskey, honey and lemon juice.  It sure made me feel good for awhile.  I don't know what it did for my cold!    :)

I started taking vitamin C everyday several years ago.  Have not had a bad cold since.  May get a slight cold, but it doesn't last near as long, or nearly as bad as before I started taking C.

Hey Rory,

I lived in KS until I joined the Navy.  A small town called Galena which is 4 miles from Joplin MO and 3 miles from the OK state line.

:biglaugh:  That was my dads also......that was the only alcohol he would drink. Maybe once a year.

Chris,

I didn't and maybe that is why I don't drink alcoholic beverages to this day.

Zinc, a good food based multivitamin, fresh fruit like oranges, apples, berries, vegetables raw or not overcooked, 'living' food that's not over processed does a lot to boost your immune system.  Fresh garlic is excellent also eaten raw, but wives tend not to like it.  LoL.  Take a pot of steaming water hot as you can stand, drop a bunch of chamomile tea bags in it, throw a towel over your head and breathe the steam nice and deep for around 15 minutes.

Snuff; I'm sure it's killing me in the long run, but it seems to kill everything else, too.

My wife and I take vitamin C and we never have colds or flus. Also drink OJ every morning and a gin and tonic every night.

You don't really want to know ! But something that will help u a litte is to have a glass of warm water that was boiled or filtered with a whole lemon squeezed into it first thing in the morning, and yes keep the pits out.

You are getting sick every year at this time and it lasts for weeks...have you thought it might be allergies and not a cold. Typically a cold last 7 days. Allergies will last until a killing frost or longer.
When my wife and I got together 37 years ago she would get a "bad cold" that would go into infected sinuses and excessive coughing. After a few years she started connecting the dots and went to an allergy doctor who confirmed her diagnosis. She is still bothered by allergies but prepared for the allergy seasons with OTC meds.
A Neti-Pot works well for flushing out your nasal cavity and sinuses.

It seems to start after I've put in a couple of serious days of hunting.  Don't know if I run myself down or what.  Plus the kids seem to bring something home from school every other day this time of year!  Thanks for all the suggestions.
