Thanx guys....no excuses really....the buck ducked, and I just shot a bit left on the first coyote....but i did get my coyote redemption!

I got the pleasure of meeting Kenny's brother John...
•

The next morning we couldn't even hunt because it was raining so hard...
•

But it would soon let up, and since Charlie had to leave for the afternoon to take care of some personal stuff. Tracy and I headed out to check a spot Kenny had told me about. We headed out on the 4 wheeler....since it was raining....we didn't take a bow with us.....hmmmm....

we hadn't gone half way in on the south farm and Tracy says..."stop, stop"!!!!

There about 200yds away was a buck tearing up a tree!!!
Windy and everything moving about, in the right direction, everything was wet and quiet, I had a perfect approach......but no bow!!!!!!
•

Pretty sure this is the same tight 8pt that I grunted in the second morning...
•

To add insult to injury....as we moved on a second, unseen much bigger buck took off as well!!!!!

We scouted and set a stand...

Thanx fellas...

So....the rain had finally quit, but the wind sure hadn't!!!   It was blowing, and blowing hard with gust up to 30-35mph....but we were gonna hunt for sure!

I headed to the ladderstand I'd put up the day before in the monsoon..."Guru's Gap"...
•

I got settled in, and was getting seriously blown around. I mean there were times I held on to my bow with one hand and the tree with the other!

I wasn't there a half hour when all of a sudden I see a big buck come busting out of the timber to the west of me about 80yds away...running flat out, tail down.

He runs out into the bean/weed field as I reach for my bow....runs a complete circle around a huge brush pile that was in the field....then heads north still running and disappears....what in the world????

He appeared to be a big 8, but could have had more....

Just as I'm about to hang my bow back up, a small buck comes busting out and does the same thing...except of course he doesn't do a complete circle around the pile...he does a half circle and runs straight toward me and stops at 10yds.....figures!!!!!

The wind had these deer on edge, he hung around nervously for 30sec or so...then took off to the north as well...

The brush pile...
•

As the sun was getting lower, with the wind still whipping, I notice a deer to the east out in the scraggly bean/weed field to that side of me(this stand covers the "gap" in the hedgerow that the tractor uses to get from field to field).
•

Soon I could see a really big doe, a "normal" size doe and a fawn heading toward me...but the wind had that big doe as edgy as a Texas deer at a corn feeder!
•

They ended up closing to about 50yds, then the big girl just kinda wigged out and they all left the field....dang it, I wanted to fill my doe tag!!!

The night ended beautifully...

That was the first night we had seen the sun in days, maybe since we got there. I could see the clouds clearing and oh it looked so good when that sun popped out.

Well done little brother. Makes me wish I was back there. 3 of my favorite people to hang out with bar none(should have been 4), a great camp set up, good food and excellent deer hunting.

How could anything be better. Keep it coming Curt! Its all yours.

Curt, wonderful pics. The best thing is I recognize everyone of those areas. I'll be stomping that ground again with my buddy Steve Grice (Jacobsladder), Tim Harms from Braveheart Archery and Jim Jones from Firefly bows in four weeks. Can't wait, Kenny is the ultimate host for sure. It's not about the harvest, it's about the memories and there's plenty of them hunting with Kenny.

Before I go any further.....I do need to say a few things....

Anyone that has read this thread knows Terry was supposed to be with us.....I've refrained from saying anything about that only because I probably drove him crazy the day I was leaving, and 2 days into the hunt with texts asking him when he was coming at first....and then if he was going to make it at all.

We talked several times before I left as departure day neared.....I knew there was a chance he wasn't gonna make it, but I also knew he'd do all he could to join us....in the end, as you know he just couldn't swing it.

I totally understood, believe me I totally understood.....but I'd be lyin' if I told you I was very, very disappointed that my buddy wasn't going to be there....it had been a year and a half since I'd seen and hunted with him and we were both looking forward to this trip so much!!

We knew there'd be other hunts, but it hurt not having Terry...

As great as this trip was, there was , for me, was a huge emptiness that I felt every day out hunting because the guy who's become one of my best friends in the whole world hadn't made it....I just missed him....

So on to Wed morning....Now I would get to hunt the stand Tracy helped me hang the morning before...

I loved this area the moment I laid eyes on it and was so looking forward to get in this stand and wait for daylight.  The first deer to show up was a tank 10 pointer that would easily go in the 130's!!

I watched him eat Honey Locust bean pods for a few minutes then move off....what a buck!

•
•
•
•

About 10 minutes behind him came a doe eating bean pods as well. Then an hr later another doe.

Deer aren't the only critter that like bean pods...
•

When I got down I snuck over to find a tree close to where I'd seen the deer....the big bucks track....the pix don't do it justice...it was huge!
•

When I got over there, I hoped I'd find a great tree in the perfect spot, but that wasn't the case. But I moved the stand to the best I could find.  I couldn't wait to try the new set-up.

I walked out to the 4 wheeler and headed for the house taking a few pix along the way...
