Hey folks, I don't currently own a grain scale but I was wondering if anyone has weighed the smallest fishing sinkers (some just call them crimp weights)? I need to bump around 20-25 grains and I am considering inserting a small sinker into the tip of my heads (11/32" glue on). I know, I know, just buy new heads - and I will, but 1 bow box, and 2 3rivers boxes at my door within a week is going to get the missus' asking questions I don't want to answer. Besides, I have a ton of fishing sinkers laying around. I was thinking of spliting one in half or leaving it whole. I will eventually get new heads, but for tinkering's sake thought I'd try this. There isn't anything wrong with putting a bullet weight inside a bh. Nate "Sunset Hill" does it with Eskimos to get them to 160.

Going to be hard to answer without knowing exact size,crimp on split shot come in a lot of different sizes.  I will look and see if I have any of known size to weigh.

I weighed some I had, they were all loose so I don't know exact size.  The very smallest weighed 11gr each.  Next size up was 14 gr.  The next size up that I had jumped to 46gr.  I think they make another size in between but I don't have any.

do you have a gram scale you could weigh them with then convert from gram to grain? It won't be as precise, but the splitshot is going to weigh what it weighs.

You may have the information you need but I was just thinking with the variety of split shot available,it would be hard to nail that down.I often use lead shot to add weights like that and #2 shot=4.4 grs per pellet,#4=3.1 grs,#6-2 grs and #7 1/2-1.5 grs.

The round size 3/0 weigh 10 grains. The round size #B weigh 5 grains. The bullet nosed PBS-0 1/64 size weigh 6 grains.

Thanks guys! There may be an easier way to get the 20 grains I need, there is also a chance I can brace tune the 20 grains away. I know some guys say 20 grains isnt noticable. I still have to fix my form a little before getting radical and blaming the 20 grains I'm short

I've used lead pellet rifle pellets to bump the weight up in some of my heads. They weigh about 14-15 grains each.

Depends on arrow shaft material, it's pretty noticeable bare shafting aluminum.

Update: well I got home and hotmelted the smallest sinkers I had on hand into my tips. I needed 20 (according to the calculator) and I don't think these were 20, more likely in the ball park of 15. I did 2 field tips up and shot with the remaining light and it looked noticably better. Im still amazed at how this Vixen throws an arrow. I do not possess the vocabulary to accurately describe the difference but I am sure digging this hill style bow a lot. The noise (or rather lack thereof) is worth note!
