2 Blade? VPA?

I'm on a quest for a 2 blade broadhead that weighs either 175 or 200 gr.  I keep looking at the VPA 2 blades and thinking $45 per 3! Who has used these and are they that good?  And before some one ask, I simply don't want a glue on/adapter set up
(Zwickey, Stos, Magnus.../Adapter) but instead a solid one piece broadhead.

Any other 2 blade suggestions that anyone has had real world experience would be appreciated.

You could use an Ace glue on broadhead and then glue in a steel adapter to make the weight that you want. Or any 2 blade broadhead that you prefer.  That is what I normally do.

oops... I should have read the whole post.  Sorry.

Possum Head

I use them and they are heavy duty, fly well, made from what seems to be some good steel. Sharpen reasonably well. Last year was my first year to hunt with the 175 gr. and stuck a doe that bled really good but with no recovery. I certainly cant deduce from one loss that the head is t fault so I'll give it a go again this year. There are a lot of good 2 blade versions to choose from without the lofty price tag. I got mine a while back for $10 a piece.

Take a look at the simmons tiger sharks 175gn and 60$ for 6

If you want one piece your going to have to pony up the money for them. Might be able to find some old 200 grain muzzy phantoms for a little less.

I have some 250 grain two blade. I got them off the classifieds for a discount. I haven't shot anything with them, but they look like they are built like a tank. They look pretty small when they get down below 250 though.

screamin

I have shot them thru cow shoulder blades, they performed very well, better than most.

I also just bought some 250gr vpa's from a great guy here on the Classifieds. The shoot great and are tough.I was able to get them sharp and and surprised I could with my non sharpening skills. Can't wait to get some blood on them

I shoot the 200gr and 300gr 2 blade VPAs.  Sharpen well with a file.  Lovem.

Andy Ivy uses the VPA 2 blade his user name on here is trad tusker. He has a youtube channel where he shows tests of them on water buffalo and water buffalo shoulder blades.Just search for Andy Ivy on youtube.

I paid 40 dollars for three here in Canada until my supplier quit handling them when the price went up...if you find the right supplier you should be able to still get them for that south of the border...I only shoot them because I want the best broadhead for the money I can buy...up to you what you are willing to live with...and btw I put them on the end of Full Metal Jackets that I pay 150 dollars a dozen for which I also consider to be a great investment

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

3Rivers had the single bevel Steelforce Phatheads  200gr, ant$40..., I could only find their 175gr on the site just now. Just got them in Mon and they fly great!  Hopefully I will be able to give you a review on the penetration before the season is out.

I think I was out under $55 and got  the three pack of screwing, a dozen 200gr field points, and then these nifty looking judo adapter things that collar a field tip, they are 75gr (200 when you add them to a 125 field point)

Pretty happy to stump, skwerl, and deer all at the same weight without too much drama.
Shootz!

I shoot broadheads for practice all year around, and always have a few dedicated just for this.

I abuse them hard, trying to see what works, where failures happen, and what it takes to get them sharp again (out of my 80# HSS Longbow).

Three dedicated VPA's were used for several thousand shots: sand banks, ethafoam broadhead targets, and yes-stumpshooting.

They were ploughed into rocks and i had to use a hammer and chisel to dig them out of treated posts and stumps. The only failure i had was when an insert in a footed carbon shaft finally failed, shifted on impact, and the threaded portion on the VPA broke off.

For a guy like me VPA's are a bargain. They are what do the killing when they hit an animal, and i want to know that they will do the job as long as i do mine.
Less anger, more troubleshooting...

No doubt I'll have to pony up but if they are worth it then it's an investment not a cost.

My friend shot a cow elk this year with a 200 grain VPA 55# Big Jim flat bow.  Arrow went in the long way rear rib to front elbow.  We stopped at Rocky mountain specialty gear outside Denver and Tom Clun put a super sharp edge on them.  The head did what it was suppose to do and more.

They are worth it!! I have shot the 175's and the 300's ...out of different bows and have taken game with both. They are as tough as there three blade and that says a lot!

I know we sell a ton of both the two and the three blades.
