3 More Dumb Arses in CO

Spent the last week hunting out of my cabin.  The dumb arses from left to right are Colotrad/Steve, Elky, cacciatore/Felix.

The first couple days were wet.  We saw some sign and heard a few distant bugles.  Then it warmed up and we dried out but it got too warm.

It warmed up so much that the lows were in the mid to upper 40s.  We hunted hard and all ended up having a few close bugling encounters.  There just were not that many elk in our basin this year. I did have a close encounter (less than 15 yds) with a bear which was cool. The company, scenery, hard miles and fresh mountain air made it a very successful hunt even though nobody even drew their bow.

I'll post a few more scenery pics below.

I notice that spike has an aspen in front of his vitals. He is not a Colorado dumbarse, evidently.

No scenery like that in this part of the country, that alone would be "worth the price of admission". Sounds like a great time even though no blood was drawn. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Before I took the pic of the spike his head was behind the log and his vitals wide open.  Of course the spike was the only elk that was not legal to shoot in this unit.  He sure looked tasty.

Thanks to Mark for hosting us at his cabin for a fun elk hunt.  Though the elk were not very cooperative due to uncommonly hot weather for late September, we had a great time.  The aspen were exceptionally beautiful this year and there is nothing like the smell of an aspen-spruce forest in the fall.  So...when the elk are not cooperating...kick back and take in the views.
