After the horrid storm on opening day I decided to try some Feather-Dri in an effort to keep my feathers in better shape. I'm not expecting miracles in a down pour and I know that something that completley covers the fletchings is a lot more fool proof but unless im doing day+ long hikes and camps elk hunting or something I'm not looking to go that route yet. So, has anyone ever used this stuff? How do I apply it, just rub it into the feathers? And any experiences with it would be good as well. Like I said, I'm only doing local hunts and not expecting miracles. Thanks folks and happy shooting!

I've been using the powder for 20 years.  Just once a year usually is enough for what you are talking about.  I put the fletching end in the plastic bag the Fletch-Dri comes in, close the top as good as you can and shake.  Open the bag and rub it into the fletching with your fingers.  Shake off.  Shake off some more.  Shoot them a couple of times to get even more off - until you don't see a cloud of powder at the shot.  Then you are good to go.  I've put them in a 5 gal bucket of water for 5 minutes and they have still been good to go.

It works.  I preferred the liquid when I used it.  

If you are using the powder, be VERY careful when you open it and be sure you are inside and no fans on.

I have used it and it works great....been using since early 90s in either that version or Feather Pruf...same premise though.  I put a little in ziplock...close and seal bag around shaft...shake and work into feathers...let it settle a little before opening.  Dont want to breath the stuff in as after you get it on your hands you will see how well it works.  Stuff lasts a long time even after shooting arrow...

Ok guys thanks. I hadn't even considered the ziplock bag idea. I opened the bottle and was scratching my head as how to go about getting it on the fletchings without making a huge mess. Makes sense! Thanks again, my wife always scolds me when I use her precious hair dryer to repair my water-logged feathers. Pssh!

I use the ziplock bag and feather dry.  Put more than you think in the bag but not to much.  when you are done you can seal the bag and keep it that way or just cut the corner off and pour it back into the bottle.  Like pete said rub it into the feather a little.  If you don't it won't work as well.  

 Oh and wear a mask you don't want that dust in your lungs!!!!

Thanks. One more thing and I'm just brain storming here, but I use yarn puffs on my string. Has anyone ever tried it on those or think it would work? Just an idea.

I use  Unscented  hair spray  on my feathers !  Works great!    easier than the powder   I do NOT hunt in a down pour  NO BLOOD TRAIL !  ANy other type of  rain or mist  the hair spray works great.  I have used sandwich bags on the feathers   once I stopped or in stand also .
I use the hair spray on the wool yarn  puffs also but now I use Hairy Beavers  and dont worry about it !

Last year I bought a quart of the same powder off the big auction site for about $25. Should be enough to last a while    

I have used a water repellant made/marketed by Coleman. Spray the fetching down right after fetching. Has worked in downpours and heavy snow both. It does not stiffen the feathers still have great flight.

Supposively that powder is pretty toxic if breathed in??  Atleast that is what I was told.  Never really researched it.  I have had great luck with "no snow" spray.  It is made for whisker biscuit rests but works great on my fletchings.
