Bad year for me...my old 35mm Canons died and my original Stealth Cam trail camera also is "buried".

So...the wife asked what I wanted for Xmas...I love these early offers...I want to stay under $300 for a Trail Camera so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I want the pros and cons of the models you fellas use. Don't be shy....  :eek:

Been using the $99 moultrees and 100% happy with 'em so far.

I've had the cams out since Early September and haven't had to replace batteries yet.  Check 'em once a week or so and usually take 100 or so shots off em each time.

I can second the moultrees...not IR but if you set them up well you get great pics and lots of 'em! They do take a second to "wake up", but at $99 you can watch three spots for the price of one! Priceless  

I'll second the $99.00 Moultrie. Gets the job done. That's scouting, right? You get the pics of what's out there and can  see what you've got to hunt and can cover three places for the cost of one Cuddeback.

I tried the moultries and could not get the 2 I tried to work right.  I went with the $89.00 Wildview Extreme 4.  It's been out in the woods for about 3 months and have no real problems after 1500 or so pics and one battery change.  The only thing that I have seen that is not right is that if it doesn't have good light it will flash and cause the pic to be overexposed looking.  Since the trees have lost their leaves, this problem rarely happens.  If placed on a field edge, it doesn't happen either.  My friend has the $49.00 Wildview 0.3 MP version and it takes great pics during daylight but the flash is only good for about 15 feet or so.  But, for 50 bucks, you can buy a couple and still have money left over for a unit with a better flash and have several cams out.  I am planning on getting one of those soon.  Not sure why the moultries I bought didn't work as I see lots of pics that others have from them that are very good.  Guess I just got lucky.  Below is a link to a site that tests and reports on nearly every camera available.  Supposed to be unbiased as he buys most or all himself.

I build most of my own and homebrews by far will out perform factory models.
As for the factory jobs, my Leaf River has the best battery life. The Wildview 2 I have works great with good pics but has poor battery life. About 200 photos per battery change. I had a Moultree and took it back.

For $90.00 to $100.00 bucks, I like the WildView
Extream4 works great for me. Battery life could be better. I think it's one of the best cheaper trail cams. I have used two other brands and like the wildview best in the $100 range. Good Luck.

I have the Moultrie Gamespy 200 and am not so pleased with it. The trigger speed is very slow and you must use the name brand (Duracell) type lantern Battery's. I have a few decent pix but feel I miss a lot. My old 35mm Stealth cam is a better cam but you must deal w/film. SOOO, I did decide my third cam would be the Moultrie I40 based on my cousin's good experience and a review I read here.

I love my Moultries

Moultrie 4.0 here as well.  The 179.00 model with longer battery life, takes video (day) clips as well.
I taped a piece of white paper towel over my flash just to tone it down a bit.  Works great.
