I have a 60" 51# @ 28" Tall Tines recurve.  Great bow that I had Brian make for me last year.

I'm shooting 29.25" Easton 2117 with 125gr heads and 3 @ 5" feathers.
I notice that the wear on the shelf rug is always towards the outside edge of the shelf.  I use velcro, and it wears thru the fuzzy stuff down to the adhesive skin in a pretty short amount of time.

I tried using a Hoyt weather rest to see if this would make a difference.  But the riser on the bow is radiused (not cut flat vertically) and the rubber rest would not stay adhered to the bow.

Other than the wear on velcro rug, the arrows fly well.  Absolutely no flight issues.  Am I overspined?  Any other ideas?     :confused:

What's your nock point height?

And do you shoot split fingers or 3 under?

Yeah sounds like you knocking point may be low. Put new Velcro on and bring it up an 1/8 and see what happens.

Or you have a form issue (high elbow, or excessive pressure on the ring finger, from which you may have a big callous) that is causing the arrow to flop downward on release and hit the shelf.

I shoot split finger.  Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll try raising the nocking point.  I don't shoot with a high elbow, but I'll see if less pressure on the ring finger makes a difference.  No callous due to shooting.

I would also think you may be just a bit over-spined. When I was shooting a fairly quick 50#, 60" recurve I found 2117s 30.5" with 175 up front flew well, with bare shafts landing right in the group of fletched arrows. Have you ever tried more point weight? They might fly just as well and eliminate some of that rubbing.

Cheap, quick and easy thing to try.

I had the same problem. It turned out my arrows were to stiff or over spined. I would say if you try some 2016's or a longer 2117 with heavier heads.

How do broadheads shoot. Thats were you will see flight issues.

I was thinking the same thing, a little stiff. Those 2117 spine about 77#, I would try a 2018.

2117s full length would be way too stiff for 51#.  Agree on the too stiff of spine.

Agreed, too stiff. I doubt even 200gr. would make them fly well. Try a 2016 or 2018, leave them long and start bareshafting.

If your right handed and your fletch is right wing then try shooting cock feather in.

The other guys have it!  Your arrow is a little too stiff.

My bro was shooting heavier spined arrows than I could with same weight. He could bareshaft them and all, but wore the rug on the outside .

I guess he has enuff better form than me to be able to do it, but when I got him to try what I was shooting, he switched and won't go back to the stiffer arrows.

So I'm with the too stiff bunch too.

I figured that these 2117 might be a bit too stiff (but I had a brand new dozen and a half!).  Back to the drawing board.  Also noticed that my brace height had slipped about 1/4 - 3/8" due to string stretch.  Twisted the string and reset it.  Nocking point looks OK.

Anyone want a good deal on a brand new dozen 2117, full length and fletched w/ 5" feathers, loose inserts?  This is a box that I have never opened.
