Had a really blessed day, today. Early into the morning's hike, Meg and I found a good, lone buffalo bull. I dropped my pack and binocular, removed my hat and boots and socks, and snuck over. The stalk went really well. But my shooting didn't. The distance was about twenty-five metres, and I knew I'd hit him behind his lungs. But it looked like a good (if there is such a thing) liver hit. There was a fair stream of liver blood within moments. He whirled and searched for me for a few seconds, then turned and ran away, splashing through a swamp. On the other side, he turned to look back. Then he chased the arrow around for awhile before slowly walking into the bush. We marked the shooting spot on the GPS and left him alone. Towards evening, we went back and searched for blood. Nothing. I wasn't surprised. The "stream" wasn't that great, and would've soon stopped and been caught by hair. We then slowly walked in the most likely direction, and had only gone eighty metres when I spotted him ahead. Stone-cold dead. A little willy-wagtail had taken ownership of the carcass. My bow was made in June this year. It is a take-down 66" Black Widow longbow, with zircote riser and tiger myrtle veneers. It has the Toby grip and is tillered for three-under. The arrow was a Grizzlystik Safari / STOS Original combination, for a total weight of 1015 grains (I've gone up in weight since my last win). I've had a great day! Thanks for reading, and good hunting to you all!

I forgot to mention that he was 228 metres from where I shot him, according to the GPS. I estimate that he travelled about 300 metres in total.

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki
