Florida bowhunter

what is your max trad yardage, what is your comfort zone, mine is 20 to 25 yards.

That sounds about the same for me, especially taking into consideration the habitat here in Florida.  At 3D shoots I make some cool 'hero' shots now and then.  Did two awesome shots at my club's championship last weekend- a downhill master stake shot that had to be at least 50 yds and was solid double lunger, and then a good 20-25 yard shot on a 'running' bear target that resulted in a perfect 10...both shots I'm certain had a luck component LOL, as I'm no Robin or Howard that's for damn sure, but I was thrilled for the fun of it.  It's pretty plain that a lot of the shots set up at 3D shoots are for fun and for practice, NOT realistic...realistically and ethically it pays to keep to shorter distances to ensure a clean kill.  25 or less is nice.  Really at the end of the day your confidence has to be 100% and depending on the conditions on a hunt your yardage will vary LOL      :campfire:

I should probably mention that I hunt on the ground only.  NO tree stands for me.

My comfort zone is 12 to 15 yards and of course closer. My first trad kill was at 8' but I doubt I'd do that again.  I would shoot farther but only if everything is perfect...which very rarely happens.

For me, it really depends on the situation. By that, I mean what my state of mind is and how the animal is presenting. In a perfect scenario, I wouldn't shoot as far as I am capable of unless it was a follow up shot.
I guess if everything is good on the animals part and I am mentally in the grove, 30 is max and it has to be big....Like elk big.

Deer react too fast so max for them is 18 yards in a perfect situation and 14 for the normal everyday shot with nothing special happening on either our parts.

T.M.I. right?  :)

Mine sounds about like everyone else, 20yd max, 15, would probably be right in my "wheel house" I've shot  two deer with my longbow that were only a few steps away, that seemed too close for comfort to me... BeauJ

X2 but, if all the cards are in order, I'd shoot to 25yds. No more than that though.

Sounds about like me, I hunt on the ground some but conditions have to be right, mostly hunt from a treestand here in Florida it is thick and I like to see them comeing, but on a windy day wind out of North 20 to 25 miles per hour I get on the ground I know this sounds nuts but I have had deer nearly get in my lap on windy days, especially if it rains the night before turns cold and windy....then it's ground time for me.......

12 yds and in, but I am getting better. Hope to be closer to 15 yds by the end of the year.

20 is good, 15 is better!  I go to lengths to make sure I measure out my common hunting and shooting areas so I know where 20 is, and won't shoot past it.

I'm a 15yds and in guy, but will take a longer shot if everything feels justright!

Most of the time, if I got a critter at 20yds, I'm looking around thinking "Where is he gonna get closer at?" !
