I was experimenting around(as we do), and decided to try my 4 1/2" grinder with a paddle wheel for sharpening broadheads. This works like a charm--spooky sharp in about 30 seconds on a Zwickey Eskimo. Finished with a butchers' steel and this was just a little bit of alright!

I realize this is a little less than primitive, but what the heck----just playing with tools.

Power tools are very good for grinding and even finish sharpening. You just have to be very carefull that the tool doesn't grab the broadhead and throw it back at you! Also be very carefull not to let the broadhead get hot as this will remove the temper from the steel.

Maybe it's not the most primitive way to do it but, so what? Getting the broadhead super sharp is the most important thing, regardless of how we go about it. Just be carefull!

I agree with Sharpster.  Whatever you can do to get the broadhead super sharp is what you need to do, and I don't think most people would argue with you, because your ethics are in the right place.  Mark

Charlie Lamb's demonstration on how to sharpen broadheads with file on the Hunters of Tradgang is well worth the cost of the dvd.  When it comes to sharpening things my track record is pretty dismal, but after watching the dvd I was able to shave hair off my arm.
